This is why people won’t take feminism seriously. 

For a while I thought these were supposed to be posts trying to boost the confidence of us females, but they made me uncomfortable, until I finally realized that they were stomping on the confidence of another group to make our gender seem more superior. I support feminism, but this is very wrong. Just because some males are cocky and sexist doesn’t mean that you can stomp on everyone’s confidence, including those with low self esteme from abuse or disorders, as a whole.

This was the very first set of tags I saw on this post and you know what? You’re a fucking asshole. To clarify:

I and many other guys on this site suffer from the same self-esteem issues and body negativity that can cause such huge problems for women. I’m never told anything to counter those thoughts, and while my appearance is not commodified in the same way that the looks of women are, I’m still shown the tall, chiselled, musclebound hunk aesthetic that people expect me to live up to in every form of media. I am far from that and so it’s difficult for me to come to terms with it.

So then I come on this website where people buzz around about body positivity and equal treatment like a hivemind. But, lo and behold, despite the supposed supportive nature people on this website claim to have for those who have such problems, at just about every turn I’m told that I’m part of a disgustingly ugly gender group and I should feel bad.

So if I can’t be happy with my looks in reality and I don’t have any support otherwise, what am I to do besides hate how I look for the rest of my life?

But nah, it’s fine, feel free to keep telling me I’m ugly and foul. It’s funny, right?

also hey hey get this, what if some girls don’t want to be seen as hot. what if some girls don’t want their entire sex to be viewed as beautiful sex gods by everybody. what if they think this bullshit exacerbates the gender binary and will only worsen the problem of “girls being pressured to look hot when they’re like 10”. i get it, it’s empowering for some of you, but come on, enough is enough

Yes.

Boiling it down to “women are hot boys are ugly” is just saying that everyone (including both genders) are just sex items and only their appearance matters.

Not only is that shallow and sexist, but when you gain confidence by stepping on others, you'er nothing more than a bully. You’re not empowering for insulting everyone just because they are the opposite gender, you’re just an asshole.
