I love Yugi and Atem but I think it’s really funny that like. the fact that Yugi is totally cool with everything is the only thing that keeps this situation from being a horror movie. it’s like two steps away from being terrifying at any given time but it’s not only and specifically because he never treats that way. He alone is keeping this whole thing planted in the correct genre. “Yeah there’s an ancient ghost in my brain who sometimes possesses my body and has so thoroughly absorbed my identity that he answers to my name and takes on my relationships, and yes he has killed like six people and psychologically tortured several more, but honestly I’m totally into it.” WELL, Yugi, if you’re fine with it then I guess we don’t have a problem. Zero issues with this situation that anyone should worry about. Did you hear that, guys? Drop the horror label and get out the ‘shonen adventure’ stickers, he says he’s into it.

some columbo episodes have a higher degree of mysticism than others. murder by the book for example, an episode that while having very little time with columbo actually on screen, has him appear from thin air. in his first entrance, he materializes out of a darkened hallway to comfort the widow of the victim.

another instance is particularly drawn attention to toward the second half of the episode, when columbo shows up to the cabin of the murderer, without visible means of conveyance

he has an explanation of course, he parked in the shade in the back to protect the car’s paint, apparently, but you can’t help but feel that he’s at the right place at the right time by some combination of chance, he just ‘wandered in,’ and 'magic,’ as the frequent harasser of columbo, jack cassidy calls it

yes, like the audience is supposed to be doubting what he says!!!

columbo is a trickster deity
