Martin’s behaviour makes more sense now. He doesn’t seem to be able to handle negative emotions very well, like the pain of being more or less exiled from you home and separated from your new family. So he just doesn’t think about it, even when his son shows up looking for answers. He does say in The Visitor that talking about Finn’s mother stresses him out.
Maybe that’s where Finn got his tendency to repress upsetting memories. Martin needed to open his vault a little. But he never did, because he’s too self-centred and emotionally immature.
