A lot of the really funny moments in Lord of the Rings come from Tolkien playing with language like this, where we have relatively formal, archaic, “high” language responded to with informal, modern, “low” language.

people are actually running splash, competitively
because as a z-move, z-splash apparently raises your attack by 3 stages, which is more than a swords dance
so people are competitively running splash, which was the most useless move in the game, on their mimikyus and wrecking everything in their path
