This is awesome and I want to add two points.
- complaining that somebody is doing something for the attention (whether they are or not) implies that attention is somehow a bad thing.
- Attacking a woman - a cosplayer, a gamer, whatever - for “doing it for the attention” is a way of excusing oneself from looking. It’s not that the observer is attracted to her or is aroused by her, it’s something that she’s doing to him, so clearly it’s her fault. Which is, y’know, absolute bullshit.
