growing up in maine us writers were of course always comparing ourselves to stephen king. TURNS OUT HE’S FUCKING WRITER GEORG
“average writer writes 3 books a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person writes 1 book per year. Steven King, who lives in cave & writes over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted
My favourite quote from Steven King was something like “I am a salami writer. I try to make good salami, but salami is salami.”
i guess it makes sense as to why a lot of his books share the same tropes like
Unexplained psychic child person whose starts off as kind of an asshole ends up breaking and going on a killing spree maine
I asked my kids if they’d prefer a secret garden or a secret library and my son shook his head and was like “I don’t trust the secret gardeners and librarians”
Me: what if there aren’t any gardeners or librarians.
Son: there’s always a librarian. Just because you can’t see them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. And it’s a garden, there has to be someone taking care of it or it isn’t really a garden.
Me:
Me: this was supposed to be lighthearted
Daughter: don’t trust the secret librarian.
Son: any librarian who hoards a library to themselves is hiding something.
Daughter: /nods seriously/
Me: why are you two talking as if from experience should I be concerned
The kids are right Jazz
But what if I want to be the secret librarian?
Me: what if you were the secret librarian?
Son: wouldn’t be a secret library. I have nothing to hide.
Daughter: so not a secret librarian. A good librarian.
Me: you two are on a wavelength I can’t understand
I think your kids went on a fantasy adventure in a magical land
and a secret librarian was in league with the big bad
Man, lemme tell you, this transition was a TRIP to watch in realtime.
Anyone who thinks this is a good thing deserves to be stabbed.
Bruh I remember in 2011 I was doing the glomp shit and saying “hubbeh.” Give that shit back to me yall. This fuckin fandoms sabotaging creators to get what they want shit needs to go
Fandom in the 2000s and early 10s was just kids being kids. Fandom today is young adults telling kids to kill themselves over the wrong ship.
I’ve noticed the amount of self-inserts has also gone down and I’m gonna assume that’s because of cringe culture? Like … ship yourself with fictional characters, my dudes. Go wild. Have fun.
I also miss the days when the “fandom wars” over favorite characters/ships was all in good fun and nobody was gonna show up in your inbox with an 8 page Ex day about why X character/ship is problematic and how dare you.
I long for the days when shipping was a joyous hobby and everyone abides by the first rule of dont like; dont read. watching fandoms go down a dark and violent spiral that culminated in making people eat needle laden cookies over shipping disputes and threatening leaks of shows if a ship wasnt canon was aweful. It does seem that people have learned how horrible it got and ive seen less fighting over differing ships in the last two years though as well as the revival of DL;DR. I can only hope this trend continues until shipping is nothing more than a casual hobby again.
we all laugh at guy fieri, smash mouth and the shrek movie series, but we also all collectively agree that their existence makes the world a better place
The king laughs at the jester, but values his wit and honesty
They are genuinely good people who wish to spread positivity and use what they are good at to do so
