Can it be open-faced? Is there a plate for me to lean over? If it lands on the floor, if there is no plate, is that also disqualifiable? How much of the sandwich can be lost before I fail?

yeah this was a waste of a saturday afternoon. apparently you need to already own a switch in order to use the emulator because the creators didnt include key files that need to be copied from the switch. that just begs the question of why the fuck emulate it in the first place.
