The people you should blame are the people who played niantic’s other game Ingress. When ingress first started players could create portal stations- which are the same locations used for Pokemon Go’s poke stops. So some guy playing ingress made that a portal location and it automatically became a pokestop. Great
Not only that, but there’s a badge in ingress you used to be able to get for submitting portals. So people submitted lots of junk portals to get the badge.
The irony here is that you’d be able to lay flat on the bed of nails without injury because of the distribution of weight but you’d just sink into the roses and get thorns all up in you.
