Here’s what I love about the doritos gremlin d.va meme: Blizzard made this character and went, “Look, it’s a professional gamer prodigy who was so good that they became a mech pilot and a national hero but STEREOTYPE SUBVERSION instead of being a Mountain-Dew-chugging git-gud gremlin she’s a cute teenage girl!” And the internet went, “Seriously? Anime is littered with cute teenage girl mech pilots. You know what would be a real subversion? If the teenage girl weren’t cute or sexy but was instead the Mountain-Dew-chugging git-gud gremlin gamer of legend. Now THAT would be a plot twist.AND SO IT IS.

And the more I think about it, the more I see that where the fandom stereotypes of Overwatch characters diverge from their official portrayal, it’s usually in the service of stereotype subversion. Reaper is supposed to be SUPER COOL DARK ROGUE but we’re all just like ”lol what a loser edgelord.” Soldier 76 is a CONFLICTED BROODING LONER ON A MISSION OF REVENGE so everyone has decided he’s Team Dad Extraordinaire who does nothing but collect small children and protect them forever. Zarya and Genji aren’t supposed to be sex objects, so they are; Hanzo and Widowmaker are, so they’re not. Mercy’s supposed to be team mom, but instead she’s 100% done with her dumbass squad who doesn’t realize that IF YOU RUN AWAY FROM ME I CAN’T HEAL YOU YOU FUCKWAD.

So basically the internet likes to subvert whatever Canon is even if Canon itself is a subversion, thus making a double subversion reach around

timurmurtazin asked: Fluorite for no. 10, perhaps?

10. Some of their emotional shortcomings?

He neglected two of his kids (one of them being adopted purely to make himself look good) and made the third deathly afraid of the dark. So I guess that counts.

knockknockitsnickels asked: For Fluorite 4,8,14, and 18 and for Sarah 5 and 20

Flourite:
4. Any addictions? (Food, sex, drugs/alcohol, shopping, power/control, etc.)
Definitely power. I mean, he did some fucked up shit to his own kids.

8. What mistake(s) do they continue to make/have not learned from?
He definitely underestimates his kids and overestimated his control over them.

14. Is there anything they are too optimistic about?
He is so positive the blue diamond blood line will continue with purity and that his kids will come crawling back to him.

18. Are they ever a pushover about something? If so, how?
Oh boy, he is straight up abusive when it comes to bloodlines. He let his sons wife die because she wasn’t a Pegasus or a paint and felt his son “tainted” their bloodline. In his eyes, it was a life lesson for his son and a warning for his daughter.

Sarah:
5. What is one thing they do that can negatively affect their relationship with friends?
She likes to flirt. A lot. Too much maybe. Also sometimes she flaunts the fact that both her parents are alive and together while her friends either have divorced parents or are missing one or both because of a war.

20. What is a self-inflicted misery of theirs? (i.e. something they perpetuate themselves)
She pushes herself way too far. She lets her pride consume her at times.

Toss some numbers in my inbox and the character I should answer them for.

1. What is one thing others might find intolerable about them?
2. Do they have any annoying quirks? If so, what are they?
3. Name one or more of their bad habits.
4. Any addictions? (Food, sex, drugs/alcohol, shopping, power/control, etc.)
5. What is one thing they do that can negatively affect their relationship with friends?
6. Their romantic relationships?
7. What is the biggest mistake they’ve ever made?
8. What mistake(s) do they continue to make/have not learned from?
9. Name some of their major physical shortcomings.
10. Some of their emotional shortcomings?
11. What are their intellectual shortcomings?
12. At least one thing that they tend to overreact to.
13. In what ways might they be overly negative and/or pessimistic?
14. Is there anything they are too optimistic about?
15. How might they be ignorant or prejudiced?
16. Do they have any behaviors and/or beliefs that cannot be adequately justified?
17. When would they be too judgmental of someone or something?
18. Are they ever a pushover about something? If so, how?
19. Is there anything they refuse to budge on? What are they stubborn about?
20. What is a self-inflicted misery of theirs? (i.e. something they perpetuate themselves)

On the one hand, i’m amused at the joke. On the other hand, I’m a librarian and this shelving is horrifying.

Well, no shelving system is without fault.

@rustingroses

As a geology nerd I can confirm this is accurate.

I don’t get it…

The shelves are highly deformed bedding planes and the big line with offset is a fault line. :D
