In part that’s because MAGA world is woven together with conspiracy theories. And we know that anything, including information that contradicts a conspiracy, can be distorted by conspiracy theorists to affirm the conspiracy.

This is largely due to the human propensity towards “apophenia,” which Merriam-Webster defines as “the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things (such as objects or ideas).”

In other words, conspiracy theorists can always find a way to distort and weave criticisms of their beliefs into the “patterns” of the conspiracy so that the criticisms end up somehow “proving” the conspiracy in their eyes.

Therefore, there is no logical way to argue with MAGA folks, because at heart many of them are conspiracy theorists.

The crazy thing is that they are gaslighting THEMSELVES!

“We’re Not Gonna Take it” is a conservative anthem! They cry. Though it, of course, never was and Dee Snyder continues to refute the assertion.

Rage Against the Machine was better before they were ‘woke’! Really, have you LISTENED to them?

TV is so ‘woke’ now! They cry, even though The Golden Girls had an entire episode with Blanche getting schooled on how offensive the stars-and-bars flag is to black people… and she UNDERSTOOD!

Even friggin William Shatner claims that Star Trek was never ‘woke’. Was that before your interracial kiss with Nichelle Nichols or after the episode where Abraham Lincoln profusely apologized for calling Uhura “a charming negress”?

They’re stuffing their ears because they know they are losing. Even cis, straight, white guys like me are working to be allies to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ folks. Hell, there’s still gay marriage in Iowa, FFS. IOWA! That’s why they are afraid.

Let’s keep ‘em afraid until they go tf away.

Rep. Mark Takano, who represents California’s 39th district, has reintroduced his 32-hour Workweek Act to Congress, which, if passed, would officially reduce the standard definition of the workweek from 40 hours to 32 hours by amending the Fair Labor Standards Act.

His proposal would mandate overtime pay for any work done after 32 hours, which would encourage business to either pay workers more for longer hours, or shorten their week and hire more people.

The bill applies to non-exempt workers, who typically work hourly jobs across leisure and hospitality, transportation, construction, manufacturing, wholesale, and retail trade.

This is by design, Takano tells CNBC Make It. “The serious conversations about the reduced workweek are happening for white-collar professions. What my bill will do is spur conversation about how we democratize this norm to other sectors of the workforce so everybody benefits.”

In addition to the OT wages for hourly folks cited above, this would also make 32+ hour workers ELIGIBLE FOR HEALTH INSURANCE, because a lot of companies skirt the law by scheduling folks for juuuuuuust below the minimum number of hours to qualify in order to fuck them over and pad their profit margins.

It’s not universal health care, but it’s a small step closer, and helps folks who have been getting fucked over.
