My dad told me a story recently about how he was in Boy Scouts or something and they went on a hike and were each given a rifle and one single bullet to practice shooting with (idk, it was the 70s or whatever). One of his friends, whom I’ll refer to as Steel Balls for reasons that will soon become clear, beckons my dad to a part of the woods and points to a giant hornets nest up in a tree. SB announces that he’s going to shoot it, waits for my dad to take cover (as one should in this situation), and fires off his only round into the nest. Sure enough, a swarm of pissed off hornets descend upon SB, who stands stoically and perfectly still at the base of the tree. Dad maintains that, despite their buzzing right around him, none of the hornets stung his friend, and they soon calmed down and returned to their newly renovated nest. SB turns back to face my dad and imparts this chunk of wisdom: “That’s the secret to dealing with hornets, Jim. They don’t know humans make rifle shots; they don’t know where the noise came from. You gotta stand still and don’t move, and they won’t chase you. If you run, they know you’re guilty.” Apparently dad was so awed he gave up his single bullet so SB could shoot the nest a second time, with the same results.
Long story short: hornets can sense guilt and there are people in the world who have tested this theory.

The most irritating thing is that, gay or straight, the characters that hang around together constantly in a TV show are NEVER in a relationship. They’re either totally platonic buddies, or gradually building up tension. NEVER established. If either is in a relationship, their romance interest is someone you barely see.
It feels like the most awful continuation of that “the wife stays at home” crap.
Yeah why is it so common that a main character’s love interest is either never part of the main action, or only becomes a canon love interest in like the very last episode?
Steven Universe is the only show I can currently think of that subverts it but it only sorta does, since Steven and Connie plots are still reserved for special episodes and Ruby and Sapphire spend most of the show as one character, the ultimate effect still being that the audience doesn’t really see a romantic relationship in action 90% of the time.
It’s like writers are stuck in this idea that a couple isn’t something people want to see as much as they want to see it teased (aren’t people bored of that? Can’t it just be done with some characters?) or that there somehow just isn’t room for one coinciding with whatever adventures are going on; as if relationships only happen when all the cool, fun stuff is over and the characters are ready to “settle down.”
The crocodile hunter wrestled prehistoric swamp monsters with his wife and kids and that was real life even
i think there’s a few reasons for this:
1) love isn’t ‘funny’ or doesn’t provide enough conflict for easy plot lines and jokes, so it’ gotta either be fights, unrequited love, lust, etc. look at most sitcoms. everyone hates each other because i guess that ‘s supposed to be funny
2) for kids shows, the ‘settle down’ thing is probably a big factor. so at best, you can maybe get some adults that are barely onscreen that have a relationship
3) getting into a relationship is usually part of the character arc. ie, connie and steven. closing that arc will usually mean the end of a story. plus, a romance plot or subplots are easy to writethe only show i can think of that has characters main characters in pre-established relationships from day one and they actually seem to like each other is bob’s burgers
OH YEAH, point 4) most tv writers are dudes and can’t write women for -shit- so almost all female characters are terrible, boring and glossed over or fridged, so dudes are the only ones that get real character depth, and they only hang out with other dudes and have all their Moments with other dudes. hence slash
That first point is something I especially get sick of; when a show is already about a couple, especially married parents, almost every single plot involves a fight or misunderstanding between them, and even if you grew up with a family that fought almost daily, the TV version never felt relatable because the real version is so brutally ugly.

In ancient times, people believed hares were hermaphrodites that could give birth without compromising their virginity. This idea led to an association with the Virgin Mary, and that’s why we have bunnies at Easter. Source
That’s one explanation but it’s not the only one.
In one of the Germanic religions, a goddess saw a bird suffering in the cold of early spring, its wings frozen so it couldn’t fly. She took pity on it and turned it into a rabbit. For some reason, though, it still laid eggs.
The best explanation for rabbits at Easter is that they were the animal of the pagan deity of fertility, estar, for whom the holiday is named after

More *Republican* senators.
I am not sure how different the numbers are between the parties, although it does seem a little more hypocritical when it’s the people pushing trans panic to try to get out the vote who are doing it.

thedenofravenpuff asked: Twilight and Cadence was confirmed MORTAL alicorns by writers and Faust. Luna and Celestia are the immortal ones.
Now I wanna know what cadence did to earn alicorn
AAAAAAAAH!!
New FiM season 6 opening was pretty neat.
Especially with how I’ve been focused on Crystal Empire lore recently, now I got a bit confirmed.
The Crystal Heart’s original function was INDEED to keep the tundra out and create that protected little paradise the last place anypony would go look for it. Who would enter into a huge, icy area with wild nature outside pony control?
The Crystal Heart is once again confirmed to have a symbiotic relationship with the Crystal Ponies. They need its protection, it needs their positive emotion based energy to power itself. To a point where each newborn Crystal citizen gets ‘pledged’ to the Heart through that little ceremony as an added boost to the Heart.
Question: How often does a baby get born in the Crystal Empire? Is it as big a ritual every time (just extra special this time ‘cuz royal)? This is not necessarily ‘just’ like a human Baptism, as humans got several churches to choose from and the ponies only got one Heart to go to. And why is it not heard of before? Just having current problems rebuilding the population or does it fit under some other theories I’ve seen that Crystal Ponies take longer to gestate and grow, and have in general lowest fertility rate among ponies. Still must to learn about this crystal nature of this tribe.
Crystal Ponies continuously shift in grades between shiny and crystal texture. Either to show emotional state and/or to show when the Heart needs to be recharged. Again, part of their close work relation.
Finally explained WHY Sombra did as he did. He kept the Heart within the Empire despite the possible threat it was to him, because it’s needed to keep the Empire from freezing over. He couldn’t destroy it unless he wanted to lose his Empire and position. Couldn’t remove it all together from his kingdom. He simply had to hide it to keep it from being recharged to a point it could be used against himself, until he could learn of how to use its power for own gain. It makes SENSE.
Crystal Ponies… are VERY simple minded. The first thought around all conflicts is “keep the Crystal Ponies in the dark, we can’t have been scared” but then wave a baby around and all is good.
A species run by positive feelings as their power source my headcanon has always been that it’s best they are simple minded to be more easily pleased. And why not? The Heart and Princess will handle everything for them, they don’t have to think too deeply.ALICORN STUFF:
Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, ancient alicorns, was ascended and not born as they claim no alicorn has been born before. I’m good with this.
Luna and Celestia were once NOT alicorns. I am good with this. Yes.
Luna and Celestia the only two immortal alicorns, according to writers and Faust, this play part in why they didn’t expect alicorns to be able to breed? Immortality = Infertility?
Alicorns never meant to be own species as it is a process of ascending? Did they expect the baby to be unicorn? (Or pegasus if background right that Cadence ascended from being a pegasus in the past). Mortal alicorns being able to breed while representing all of the three tribes, that mean they have equally chance of having pegasus, unicorn or earth pony foals?
Either way… then what is up with Flurry Heart? How did Cadence manage to breed? Why did she turn out to be alicorn? Why the huge wings and horn? representing her huge power levels? How could a simple spell suddenly bind Flurry Heart’s alicorn magic? Can it be used on any other alicorn? Does the Crystal Empire’s magic play any part in this?
So many questions… Some headcanons shattered or change, some confirmed.
Either way I approve of the new season premier. Let the awesome resume.
If immortality=infertility, then cadence wouldn’t have been pregnant. I think it’s more likely that alicorn is a recessive trait and very rare to show.
