this is my fav bc an actual major cause for the fall of rome was the resistance of the wealthy to paying taxes which led to a crumbling of infrastructure but who cares about thaaaaat
“Feminism killed Rome” is my new favorite sentence of all time.
Also ballooning military spending, a widening gap between rich and poor, religious intolerance following the Emperor’s embrace of Christianity, and lead poisoning of the water supply.
*looks at camera*
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH *BANGS GAVEL*
Man, the parallels between Rome and America are astounding
robots - 100% mechanical, no organic or living parts
androids - robots that are designed to look human-like (100% mechanical)
cyborgs - organic/living thing with added mechanical or cybernetic parts
Robot
Android
Cyborg
And just to complete the list of frequently misapplied terms:
Bionic refers to any mechanical system that deliberately imitates the functionality of a biological one, regardless of whether it visually resembles a biological system.
Cybernetics refers to a class of control mechanisms, not to the mechanical parts themselves. In the specific context of robotics, any device that provides real-time sensory feedback to a human controller can accurately be described as “cybernetic”, regardless of whether it’s implanted in (or, indeed, even physically attached to) its controller.
Anonymous asked: While sherlock is queerbaiting (which fucking hurts because it's like teasing the LGBT community with representation wihle never actually giving it) elementary has well written characters who serve a purpose and nice mysteries. And people will still attack elementary despite it being better written
Yeah! I mean, to be perfectly fair I’ve never watched BBC Sherlock, but it never had any of my interest at all and given what I HAVE seen, I feel like Elementary is the better interpretation of the two. Also yeah queerbaiting is dumb, I’m not here for that.
It’s really funny because I remember I originally thought the idea for Elementary - mainly that they were making John Watson into JOAN Watson - was stupid! Like everyone, I thought they were just doing it so they could have Joan and Sherlock be in a relationship without the gay. But it went in an even better direction! With them becoming really close platonic friends and colleagues.
Honestly, Sherlock and Joan’s friendship gives me life… It’s so precious! I kind of wanna re-watch the series soon just so I can witness the development of it again.
Elementary also plays their representation of queer characters very casually and it’s super refreshing, even if there aren’t any MAJOR lgbt characters (yet?). I mean just off the top of my head a nice, recent example was when an episode featured polyamorous characters, including a family of four who all lived together and were raising children. They had a trans character, Ms. Hudson (played by a transwoman!), early on in the show. Plenty of gay characters here and there (I can’t remember any specifically bi/pan/ace characters? Though I’m sure if not ought-right stated, it was implied).
So yeah all around Elementary is Good and more people need to watch it tbh
My problem with sherlock is that their “representation” of the queer communinity is insulting. the way it’s written like they are gay even though they aren’t feels more like exploitation than representation. and don’t get me started on how terrible of a writer moffat is but that extends to doctor who. And the fandom. The fandom is terrible. A lot of the fans I’ve seen are super rabid adn’t don’t support the queer community, they fetishize it. Which is appalling.
