translation: we’re afraid to make women look different and “ugly” by giving them emotions that aren’t cutesy and cuddly because that would give people the idea that they’re human and not dolls to sell for Disney profit
I figured out why the latest game theory video sat so uneasily with me:
It reduces Undertale to an Earthbound fanfiction.
I understand there being Earthbound references, as Toby is an Earthbound fan.
I could also understand a theory about Undertale being a continuation of the themes of the Earthbound Halloween ROM, of peoples’ souls being trapped in alternate timelines. Writers take material from their previous ideas all the time.
But to say that Sans is Ness and they’re in the Earthbound universe? That takes a brilliant game and turns it into an AU fic.
Also, Matpat, if you ARE going to go the earthbound route why would you leave out the Memoryheads, which would have supported your theory EXPONENTIALLY MORE than a lot of the stuff you put forth?
Also, it ignores occmans razor even more than usual. Rather than the simple explination that sans was one of gasters two assistants and has an album of him with gasters followers, blueprints in gasters (wingding font) andwriting and one of gasters busted machines, it makes sans out to be Ness and papyrus a robot. And he misses a bunch of major details like the fact that papyrus turns to dust when he’s killed and sans has an affinity for drinking ketchup despite not having organs and that could possibly stain his ribs.
