Also telling people “well I handle my mental illness just fine while unmedicated so obviously you can too” is a form of ableism.
Everyone’s brains are wired differently, some people are fine and other people are not. Some people might have something severe enough that it affects their day to day life, while others have it mild enough that they can get by with no issues.
For example, ADHD is NOT the same for everyone. Some people have mild ADHD, some have severe. And some with severe might have it coupled with other things like anxiety and depression that make it even worse.
I am so severe that I needed medication for my ADHD and insomnia PLUS Lithium to control my anger and mood swings.
And I was suddenly ripped away from that when my healthcare ended.
So yes, I do get angry easily. I am very mean and depressed and easily triggered in to anger.
But I’m aware of it, I don’t excuse it, I try to be on my best behavior and I try to stay calm. I try to be as nice as I can to people but sometimes I screw up and there’s nothing I can do about it except accept that it’s a part of who I am and do what I can to make up for it and fix it.
So quite telling me my ADHD is an ‘excuse’ for my behavior.
