It’s more like he created a program to talk to himself and it goes and talks to his friends for him anyway, but., still

lil hal is an autoresponder, built to imitate dirk to his friends when dirk is predisposed. dirk argues with him because he’s dirk and he’d start a fist fight with a mirror if he accidentally sneered into one
