i’ve straight up seen multiple posts cross my dash saying you can’t criticize the catholic church unless you, yourself, are an ex-catholic and have been personally victimized by this massive religious institution. i wonder who might benefit from claiming the only reason people might have to be suspicious of powerful institutions are individuals with personal bad experiences and that said institutions are otherwise immune to structural critique. must be a mystery
