I’m late to the post but I wanted to add some fun facts! Lin and the other bath women are called yuna and are slug spirits. According to the art book, however, Lin was originally meant to be a fox, which you can still sorta see in her features. (The English version says weasel but that could be a translation error?) The wiki, on the other hand, says she is portrayed as a human.
Also, when working on the concept art, Mr. Miyazaki would do rough corrections, and would “constantly flatten Lins chest line,” but she was ultimately given a more shapely chest to contrast her tom-boy personality
The point of Lin is to play the “cool older-sister” role, both teasing Chihiro and watching over her.
She’s also there to make us gay.
