i have a degree in political science and i’m here to inform you that the idea of the “tolerant left” is a myth that the right made up all by themselves to gaslight progressives for telling them they couldn’t call marginalized people slurs anymore

Not to bog down a good enough post with what might be unnecessary exposition, but they also don’t even allow themselves to realize that they made this all up. They successfully convince themselves that “tolerance” is a principle “the left” is supposed to religiously adhere to and that tolerance is supposed to extend to all alternative values, no matter how harmful.
This is also because they believe with the utmost sincerity that their chosen scapegoats - gay marriage, immigrants, welfare families, whatever it is this week - are objectively the more harmful ones, actually causing some sort of damage to them or to whatever it is they hold dear about society, which they believe they are merely retaliating against.
In their minds, they’re the moral backbone of civilization, standing up to a bunch of outsiders and deviants who want to take something of some sort away from them, they think everybody secretly knows that’s what’s going on, and therefore they think we’re deliberately denying them the same “tolerance” afforded to these “special interest groups” as some kind of socialist power play.
This piece is a little older (I am going though my backlog of sketches and drawings and posting them, pff) but this is my boy Dayquil!!
Basically, I restarted a play-though on SoulSilver because I wanted to play some Pokemon while going though college finals, hence Dayquil, whomst is my boy. I would die for Dayquil if that isn’t apparent enough.
