also in trans news that should be talked about. laverne cox has stated that on saturday her and a friend were assulted in a park and it’s not really getting the same attention as elliot. we can still be proud of him without ingnoring what happened to laverne and her friend.
if you claim ally ship to the trans community then you can’t ignore the bad things that happen to especially trans woc. and if you’re a white trans person you can’t just talk about other white trans people. it just shows that you only care about trans people if they are white and that shouldn’t be the case.
if your gonna talk about elliot please also talk about laverne. she deserves better and we should all do better to raise up the voices of black trans women.
“This has happened to me before,” she said. “I’ve been trans my whole life. I’ve been harassed and bullied my whole life. None of this is new, but it’s still just kind of like, ‘Who cares?’ and then ‘Why do you need to be aggressive?’”
At first, Cox said she debated sharing her story on social media and wondered what she “could have done differently,” before realizing “it’s not my fault that this happened.” She also thanked her friend, who immediately recognized that Cox was the “target” of the attack and deescalated the situation.
As well as a follow up live she posted talking about it a bit more, thanking people for their support, and talking about some experiences she’s had as a Black trans woman in general

I’m really happy for Elliot and I don’t mean to shame anyone for feeling that way either, but this reminds me that Ashley Diamond is back in a men’s prison because of a parole violation. She’s previously taken the prison to court and won, but she’s essentially back to square one and as of two weeks ago she’d suffered 14 sexual assaults in about a year.
Her charge were for burglary and I feel like there was something weird about it but I can’t find a source and I’ve been up over 24 hours and am crashing, so if anyone can help there that would be cool.
I don’t think anyone here is or means to “throw Elliot under the bus” with compassion shaming or anything. I try to avoid those threads, and I see this as an important reminder while trans issues are in a spotlight. I think you’re okay on that.
Not to mention, Elliot specifically highlighted the importance of these issues himself in his original letter. If anything, I’d say he’s likely happy if his coming out helps us work to fight harder against trans violence of all types.
