The Minish/Picori are super adorable critters but I don’t quite have any ideas for them as far as plot of the timeline goes. For the world itself I see no reason to not include them as a sort of race, though. o3o
So off the top of my head I’d say the Minish (otherwise known as the Picori) are a subspecies of earth fae known as a Sprite (sometimes known as a pixie). I’m half-tempted to call them spirits given their supernatural properties in the canon lore (invisible to adults, native to a separate realm, their fae-like appearance) but a type of fae works just as well. They’re very tiny, much smaller than fairies: they’re about as tall as one of your fingers.
They make their homes out of the hollows of tree trunks or teeny tiny caves and are known for recycling non-essentials and forgotten items from homes: buttons, needles, litter, anything left behind they can recycle into new uses. They’re kinda like the “Borrowers” in such a way.
Minish are said to be bringers of good luck and the people of Hyrule often build tiny bins to put their unwanted things in. These bins are then placed in front of shrines dedicated to forest spirits, where it’s best accessible to the Minish without being seen. It’s said that in the place of the bin will be a Kinstone, which is believed to be the common currency among the Minish, as a form of thanks and payment. These tiny medallions are a lot like how we see a Rabbit’s Foot, and therefore has value in the good luck they are thought to bring the owner of one.
I did a few quick roughs to try and figure out a design for them:
It ranged from making them more rodent to more like a monkey, but I ultimately decided to go with the second one because it was relatively close to the canon design but with a clearer spin to it. This is the result:
I went with a mix of something mammalian but with a more insectoid like spin to it, and this is how it ended up lookin’. I chose the colors from the original canon design but I might go back and play with them, but the concept itself I like! <:
