I just watched Into the Spider-Verse again, and I can’t believe I forgot how incredibly extra Doc Ock is in her first fight scene. An incomplete list:
Pausing to monologue whenever she gets a good hit in
Posing like a lunging predator when she hurls herself at Miles in spite of the fact that none of her flesh-and-blood limbs are in any way involved
Rampaging through the forest knocking over trees that are nowhere near her flight path, apparently just on general principle
When Miles takes shelter behind a large tree, rather than flipping around it or swatting it aside – both of which she’s demonstrably capable of doing – she takes the time to carefully bisect it lengthwise and dramatically gesture with the resulting halves
It stands out all the more when literally every other villain in the film is a manfully scowling hardass, and then there’s Olivia just pinballing around the scenery with that shrieking manic energy – like, did she not get the memo that this is a Serious Villainous Organisation For Serious People?
I love it.
She’s having FUN! “It’s PROPRIETARY!” and her complete lack of concern when Kingpin actually threatens her suggests that she sees Kingpin and his goon apparatus as a convenient source of extra funding but otherwise beneath her. Evidence suggests she’s right: she’s not particularly subtle about being a supervillain but she’s still the head scientist at a research corporation with a swank campus in the lower Hudson Valley.
she gives zero fucks. she KNOWS that if she did succeed in ripping kingpins family from an alternate timeline, they would die right in front of him again and didnt mention it once
