Hey guys I just bought this cool cylinder from some guy in the flea market parking lot, not sure how it works but when you take the lid off it makes your camera all grainy, super cool!

Hey guys, I have an update, and there’s a few lies going around in the notes so I figured I’d clear those up while I was here:

First of all, no, I did not “confirm it was was fake” on Twitter, I originally posted this video to a private but fairly big discord, someone there took it and put in on Twitter and later told everyone it was a joke because they were getting quite tweeted too much. That person is not me, I don’t even have a Twitter

Second. Apparently this is something called cesium, it’s super radioactive and that’s why the container is so heavy and thick. I ended up having a really bad burn on my hand after I messed with it for a few more days, they ended up having to take some of the muscle off of it and a ways up my wrist to try and save my arm, this is what it looks like when I unwrap the bandages (I’m not going to show the hand because it looks WAY worse🤢 and I don’t want to make yall puke)

Anyway, be careful what you buy from strange guys at flea markets! They might just be trying to kill you!

uh is this dude dead or lying lol

I only have a passing interest in radiation incidents, but almost certainly lying, if I’m frank. There’s no way to really prove the op and the reblogger are the same person with the url change, anyway, so all bets are off; they might not even be the same person. Still, I’ll make this post assuming that this is all from one person.

First of all, finding an orphan source like this is a once-in-a-lifetime sort of event, like the Goiânia accident, and it would almost certainly have made the news. Radioactive caesium isn’t a naturally-occurring rock - it has to come from human intervention, and normally a government-aided source, which would necessitate tracking the materials being worked with.

Second of all, I don’t think that’s adequate radiation containment, so this thing should have been discovered before it hit the flea market. An orphaned sample of radioactive iridium, for example, had to be contained and removed by way of an inch of iron shielding (page 11). That container doesn’t look thick enough, nor dense enough, to have prevented radiation injury to whoever had it beforehand.

Third of all, that scar doesn’t look like any sort of radiation injury, or healing radiation injury, that I’ve ever seen. It looks like the patch of healing skin left behind after they take a skin graft for a phalloplasty.

Radiation damage is much more creeping, visceral, messy. It’s like a slow-motion gunshot wound, to quote reports on the victims of the Therac-25 (a malfunctioning radiotherapy machine). If the doctors had to “remove muscle”, they would have just amputated the arm.

So, I think OP is lying, but frankly it would be fascinating if I could be proven wrong. And I think OP should become the subject of a case study, and also help trace the path of this particular sample by identifying the seller. Who knows how many more people were contaminated, if this is a legit post?

I know I’m kind of being the fun police here, but after learning about more than my fair share of radiation exposure incidents, I want people to be aware of the real dangers, not just “haha camera do funny and now my hand is gross”.

Homeslice, your hand is gone.

Any one of us, artist or otherwise, would be fortunate, blessed even, to be remembered for a single note. So what a monumental achievement is it to be remembered for four
