Anonymous asked: I think the reason I like media homestuck and BNHA so much is because of the crossover potential. You can look at any cast of characters and put them in sburb with god tiers or turn their powers into a quirk and make them heros and villains. That being said, I think crossover potential heavily contributed to homestucks longevity and bodes well for BNHA. That and any media that uses quirk as a descriptor for an integral mechanic is a surefire success. Thank you for coming to my TED talks.

that’s a good theory i think! i always thought that part of homestuck’s major appeal was how much possibility it allowed for like… customization? projecting personality onto it? like you can figure out your troll blood color, your godtier classpect, your sburb planet, all sorts of shit like that.

another thing would be how it has a large cast that people liked to re-imagine into various AU situations. i feel like homestuck had like five hundred million AUs because the source material was so, so soaked in a really convoluted plot, shit was always hitting the fan, and lots of characters got killed off or were having a rough time and also there was usually like 3 of everybody, or maybe some of THOSE were dead, so like… it’s a lot! it’s difficult to parse and hard to play with. so people would take the characters they liked and put them in much more calm, more conventional settings. stuff like that, i think, really contributed to people connecting to homestuck and it’s characters

i posted this in my DND group naming an NPC who is one of the players fathers who got stranded on an island. He got to shed some light on what his time with the players mother was like as well as his interests and hobbies were but due to a very very badly timed nat 1 on the players part, he ended up dying.
