Anonymous asked: su spoiler: I really really like that steven stated hes seeing a therapist now. one of the things i love the most about steven universe is how well it addresses many different mental health issues and the importance of seeking help. I really like that in the end, stevens biggest issue (other than PTSD) was imposter syndrome because thats something that often gets overlooked when discussing mental health. I love that hes not trying to hide that hes getting help. It helps normalize getting help
yeah! i know a lot of people were hoping for an episode where he starts seeing a therapist or something, so it’s super nice that they establish he has been seeing one and is going to continue seeing them!
and yes!! imposer syndrome is such a huge aspect of a lot of debilitating mental health issues, so it’s really cool and important i feel that it gets addressed. obviously steven’s sense of self has become an increasingly relevant and important topic throughout the course of the show, but this goes beyond even his ‘i am my mom/i am pink diamond’ situation (notice how neither Rose nor Pink get mentioned specifically, and steven’s issue with being a Diamond has way more to do with the way it reflects his relationship with his strength/power/emotional situation) not feeling comfortable in your own skin, feeling like you’re becoming someone that ‘isn’t really you’, or feeling like you’re not living up to being the person people ‘expect’ you to be… that’s a super mundane and relatable fear! and i think that’s explored fairly well in SU:F and it’s good that it’s one of the main topics surrounding Steven’s troubles.
