mandatory disclosure that i do think this site sucks but……..tumblr’s kinda nice in that its less like……public facing than twitter fb insta etc? more like how the Old Internet used to be where u had your own little niches…idk i feel like that’s harder to find now
All those places you have to do the equivalent of brushing your hair and putting on make-up for. Tumblr’s more like everyone hanging out in their pajamas and passing a bucket of popcorn around.
actually in one of my lectures, we had a guest speaker who told us that the anonymity of tumblr is why so many lgbt people use it. so they dont have to be so open about their identity and can feel safe and interact with other people under this blanket of anonymity
Tumblr doesn’t know my name. Nobody who knows my family knows I’m here. Tumblr doesn’t sync with my phone contacts or searches my mutuals’ mutuals and suggest me friendship with my boss or my old school bullies. Employers are not going to look up my tumblr after an interview. God, I can hide this shit from Google searches if I want to!
This is the only place I can be a freak and relax and the only people who might take me to task over it are the other freaks and I can just block them.
This thing is like a secret hiding place in an abandoned building in a police state. The floor is strewn with rusted metal, pigeons are shitting everywhere and it smells like something died because it probably did. But nobody knows we’re here or cares what we do here. So bring on the hellsite!
