the united states center for disease control and prevention (CDC) has issued a warning against cuddling and smooching bearded dragons due to an outbreak of salmonella associated with pet reptiles. even healthy and clean looking bearded dragons can be carrying salmonella in their droppings, which easily spreads to their body, and then leaves salmonella germs anywhere they touch or roam. those contaminated poop germs can then infect humans.
the CDC advises against reptiles as pets for those under 5 years old or above 65 years old, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
to reduce chance of infection: do not eat or drink near a bearded dragon. make sure to wash hands every single time after touching a bearded dragon. keep reptiles away from young children and places where food and drink are prepared or consumed. keep your reptile’s enclosure clean, but do NOT clean supplies in the kitchen or anywhere food is eaten or prepared.
people taking stomach acid reducers are more likely to be infected with salmonella.
a salmonella infection can cause painful long-term disability. while most salmonella infections do not require antibiotics, salmonella germs are developing antibiotic resistance and severe infections are becoming more difficult to treat. some of the salmonella germs involved in this outbreak are resistant to ciprofloxacin, a type of antibiotic used in the treatment of salmonella.
taking ciprofloxacin can also cause painful long-term disability, by the way. the safest option is to avoid salmonella altogether, and to stay informed about antibiotic safety. seriously, cipro can fuck you up BAD.
It came towards the end of a very long acrimonious thread about conflicts between TERF and non-TERF feminism, which I don’t especially want to reblog, but I’m still stuck on the observation from that thread that “TERFs see trans issues like gender affirming surgery as being a distraction or taking resources away from issues like abortion or FGM, but it’s not. It’s all the same fight.”
There’s no contradiction between opposing FGM and supporting gender affirming surgery. There’s no contradiction between supporting the right of women to get abortions or hysterectomies, and protecting women (and men!) from being sterilized against their will by eugenics policy. There’s no contradiction between supporting the right of women in France to wear a hijab, and the right of women in Iraq not to. There’s no hypocrisy. There’s no gotcha. These are all the same right. The right to control one’s own body, life, and lifestyle.
It’s not about loving or hating a headscarf, or prizing a dick over a lack of a dick. These are details. The fundamental principle is always about autonomy. It’s all the same fight.
Or, to pull another quote that has stuck with me, “If you don’t own your own body absolutely, then you don’t own anything at all.”
While I love images of Suselle, I also love seeing images of Kris and Susie acting like dumbasses doing stupid shit together. What’s something that you can see the two of them doing that isn’t criminal, but still gets them in trouble?
