Ethical considerations aside, the problem with “working for exposure” is that logistically it just doesn’t make sense. There are really only two possible scenarios in play here:

1. The client’s established audience isn’t lucrative enough for them to afford to pay you a decent rate. If this is the case, getting your name and face in front of that audience is of little value, since you know ahead of time that they’re not prepared to cough up what the product is worth.

2. The client’s established audience is lucrative enough for them to afford to pay you a decent rate, but they think they can save a buck by stiffing you. If this is the case, then you know the client is lying when they claim that they expect putting you in front of that audience to result in more business for you, because if they did expect that, they’d want to keep you as far away from their audience as possible – why would they voluntarily share a limited pool of disposable income with someone they didn’t want to pay in the first place?

Is this a commentary on what trans women asking not to be deadnamed face or do married cis women who keep their names still face this?

It’s more of a commentary on trans People facing deadnaming.

The only problem with this (very well put together) analogy is that there are DEFINITELY still people out there who feel this way about a woman not taking her husband’s name.

why do photos of empty hospitals scare me so much……… wild

OMG I ACTUALLY HAVE AN ANSWER!!! Psychology student part of tumblr, here! There’s a phenomenon in the brain, although I can’t remember the world, where your brain doesn’t understand emptiness in a space you’ve becomes used to seeing people in, and, your survival brain, trying to make up for it, makes you see or feel things that aren’t there, this is common with empty stores that are usually bustling, train stations, abandoned buildings, etc. The reason you become unsettled or scared is because the part of your brain responsible for survival is like: “wait. Everyone’s gone. Does this mean danger? Should I leave, too?” It’s a survival thing, apparently!

Being in school after hours invokes a sense of constant threat and unstoppable conquest at the same time

dollar store got wise and started charging for broom handles and the broom head, trying to charge me $5 for the whole deal, 3 for the handle and 2 for the head.

i said fuck that because while they thought they were getting smart, they were dumb enough to write that they had over 1500 different products on the front of the store, which tells me that the cashier who works for close to minimum wage is n e v e r checking up on what each individual item costs and how it’s sold

so i put the broom handle and matching head together and kept my hand on the handle, a subtle move to hide the second barcode, saving me three dollars, and the confidence to walk out like i own the place

me, in the housewares aisle trying to think 19 moves ahead and exactly what my alibi will be for the police:
