a culture fixated on sniffing out “fakers” to protect “real disabled people” inevitably harms every single disabled person within that culture & only maybe a relative handful of “fakers”, who are usually mentally ill or economically disadvantaged to the point of having no alternative. stop saying your skepticism is for my benefit. stop saying my oppression is for my benefit. yes the idea of people with no grasp of my struggle claiming it is infuriating & insulting beyond belief. yes that is also oppressive. but in practice, i’d rather a dozen able bodied people successfully pass themselves off as disabled than one disabled person die in poverty because they couldn’t “prove it” to an abled person’s content

setting aside the fact that People Die From This, just the impact of faker witchunting on the emotional wellbeing of disabled people is enough to make it inexcusable
i’ve heard someone crying, literally sobbing & vomiting from pain frantically promise me that they’re not exaggerating when i never indicated for a moment that i disbelieved them, because they’re so used to the accusation. i’ve heard someone in the aftermath of a seizure quietly mumble as they regained lucidity, “are you sure i’m not faking?”
i don’t know a single chronically ill person who hasn’t at one point or another seriously questioned if they were ever really that sick at all because we’ve been so brainwashed to challenge the validity of disability that we begin to doubt the reality of our own definitive lived experiences

alright, i’m getting a lot of replies to an older text post i made in which i said that i love rats, telling me that my beloved pets i’ve kept for most of my life are “diseased” and “nasty”, which are totally necessary additions that i totally asked for. /s

so here’s a post debunking some somehow STILL widespread misconceptions about rats, specifically domesticated pet rats.

@kilalabunnies in case people harass you for being a rat owner

Expose them

*yells incoherently about the founding principles of Christianity vs the evangelical/prosperity gospel/right-wing view of Christianity for a few hours*

Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Matthew 19:20-23: Jesus said to [the rich young man], “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Capitalist “Christians” Today: I have stuff so Jesus must have blessed me! I’m going to Heaven for sure! By the way fuck the poor, Jesus must not like them or they’d have stuff too, it’s their own fault they’re suffering.

Jesus: I don’t remember saying it was Opposite Day when I stated those teachings, but,

I will never understand how the GOP has gotten the reputation as the party of Christianity when almost every single one of their policies is in direct contravention to Jesus’ teachings.

The fact that Christians and mega-church leaders have been seduced by money and power to convince their parishioners that the only two political issues that are “political” are abortion and “traditional” marriage. It’s like they ripped two pages out of the Old Testament and then used literally the rest of the Bible as toilet paper.

I’m an atheist and still follow the tenents of Christianity better than the majority of the GOP.
