Right… because the majority of gamers constantly talk about shit guys who try to get the number of the gamer in question whenever they play video games, instead of the game itself. Player builds, map strategy, amazing plays, update pro’s and con’s, any part of their life outside of the game, shitty people, fantastic people, politics, shared history, personal history, television, personal interests, movies, cartoons, books, favorite IP’s, etc.

I’m mad that this has to be explained, but it has to be explained.
It’s because people with enough privilege are allowed to think politics is only ideas. There are no real world concequences as far as they’re concerned because what will befall us won’t affect them.
It’s why they can so easily play devil’s advocate, and why they think they’ve won an argument when their opponent becomes “emotional” or personally invested.
Privilege allows cool detachment. To them only the opinions count, not the actions that come from opinions.
That’s why I hate the ‘fight to the death for your right to express your opinion’ thing because there’s other things I think require fighting to the death for while Nazis openly and proudly express their opinions, namely: people’s lives and safety from said Nazis.
The right of white supremacists to express their opinions is not in danger. Never was. So don’t get tricked into fighting for their right to enforce those opinions.
When people say “don’t hate someone just because they disagree with you” they’re loudly admitting that for them, all of this is as consequential as your favorite pizza topping.
