People on this site outright calling the Game Grumps horrible people is kinda hilarious to me because I’m pretty sure both Danny and Arin combined are much kinder than any assholes on this hellsite.
Seriously they’re ANGELS
Nah, angels isn’t the right word. The Game Grumps have messed up in the past and done a few problematic things. But the thing is that they’re REAL PEOPLE. When you make videos that are mostly unedited and have more genuine banter compared to other lets players out there, you’re bound to show your faults. But real people fucking work.
What makes a person good or bad is if their willing to make up for their mistakes or try to learn from them. The Grumps in particular have gone out of their way to fix things for other people if their informed if they’ve done anything harmful (two good examples would be the trigger warning placed at the start of the disney princess playthrough and the section of the sonic adventure playthrough that outed the name of someone who created a walkthrough being cut out for their safety).
I’m not gonna lie, they’ll probably make more mistakes in the future. But that’s okay! Because that’s all part of being a developing human being. Don’t ever let Tumblr’s shitty witch hunt mentality tell you otherwise.
Also, don’t use this post to defend Jontron. Don’t.
i watched playthroughs of undertale back in the day but actually playing it now im just…hit really hard by how fucking bizarre it is that the fandom characterized sans as some sex god like…. hes just goofy and depressed
the disconnect between erotic and stoic fanon sans, and the canon sans who stacks dozens of hotdogs on your head.. incredible
the way in which the fandom missed the point of sans and the game at large is still one of the most tragic things to me. the only side of sans they’re interested in is what they see as dark, edgy, and sexy, but is really just hopeless desperation that you, the player, push him into by murdering everyone he cares about. it’s a side of him that should never have to be seen. it’s very obviously not who he wants to be and the fact that the fandom drools over that side of him as hard as they do almost feels sadistic and cruel in a strange way
id agree like… yeah “killing is bad” is hardly some groundbreaking message but the way the game goes about it is really interesting and unique. its really neat how you see the characters in the pacifist run vs the no mercy run and how theyre pushed to their breaking point. and yet somehow this incredibly simplistic message flew over peoples heads and what came out was “skelton badass and sexy”
I recently got done playing a pacifist run on the PS4 and I kinda made that connection as well. It’s just so weird how Sans got so sexualized by the fandom just because he had a “dark” side to him, which in reality is just desperation to try and save what world he has left.
Like, I get it in a sense; playing a genocide run shows Sans in a completely different light than what you’d expect from him, and people love that. But the only reason he’s being so “dark” and “edgy” is because he’s trying so hard to stop you – the player – from literally ending the world. It’s not dark or edgy. It’s an act of desperation.
I really love Sans because he’s just this goofy fuckin skeleton man who just wants to live in a timeline where he and his friends are happy, and it’s pretty sad to see how the fandom has twisted his character into something that’s not even him anymore.
Not to mention in genocide run he knows killing you wont stop you. When he kills you his plan is to make you reset out of rage. He knows hes not actually hurting anyone. its more like pinning someone to the ground until they say uncle. Not to mention if you reset before defeating sans there’s still hope that you can do pacifist without frisk possessing you but i dont know whether or not sans knows that.
TLDR of my addition to this: sans knows hes not hurting anyone when he kills you over and over again in genocide.
I was thinking about why I prefer to read manga over American comics (as in, monthly serialized comics) and, putting aside opinions about the “quality” of either medium, I think the reason why is because I have absolutely no idea how American comics work.
Say you’re a complete noob to manga. You don’t know shit about it. But that One Piece thing you saw on TV looks really cool and you want to read it. Where do you start? Volume 1 and go from there.
But imagine the same situation but with comics. You just saw the new Spiderman movie and now you got a craving for more like it. Where do you begin? Well, no one knows because there’s been 901823434^34 different iterations of the character for decades.
With manga, there’s usually one guy (and maybe a team of artists under them to help) working on it. Even if it goes on for years or may switch leads, there’s usually some “consistency” to keep everything in check. With American comics on the other hand, it’s the complete opposite: you have multiple different writers and artists, each contributing their own take on the character: alternate timelines, alternate motifs, etc etc. It’s all a big clusterfuck to me and I have no idea how anyone can keep track of it all.
i wanna read spiderman, where do i start?
“well, you’ll have to choose one of the major points in the series to start at and then switch between different iterations depending on what kind of tone you’re looking for“
i wanna read jojo, where do i start?
“volume 1“
“I want to read X-Men and Wolverine, where do I start?”
people always talk about how trans people are such a small part of the population but like listen my dudes i guarantee you if the subject of gender was actually properly taught and talked about, if there wasn’t such a massive taboo behind the entire subject, there would be so many more people IDing as different forms of trans and there would be so many less confused and sad people out there
i spent so much of my life going “god i wish i was a girl” never knowing it was an option to just Be A Girl and i know there’s SO many people out there experiencing the same thing
