this is SUCH a good point and i LOVE this train of thought because yeah! they super weren’t under the thrall? Even if they were, they were trying to pull the same shit even before they got the bell for a while.
they WERE using it out of love in a way! their love for each other, which was the thing that kept them sane, kept them alive, kept them together. because they already lost one sibling and couldn’t bear to lose another.
it’s not the relic that killed them. like in gundren and sloane’s cases, they used the relics for their own gain and both ended up dead by their relics (sloanes being more her own choice but still). in the liches’ case, after edward was killed by the umbrastaff, i think lydia just straight gave up on living entirely and let herself crumble to dust after using up the last of the power she had in herself.
so, yeah, love prevails! their case is damn twisted but ur right
