It’s like a game except for all the ways it’s not.
“Real or not real?” Taako will say. “That time I got slapped for stealing some gold from the lockbox, when we were traveling with the assholes with the carts, whats their names?”
“Not real,” Lup will say. “That was the Martins. I distracted ‘em while you stole the loot. We bought new shoes and you got the weirdest hat.”
“Fuck you!” Taako will say. “That hat was great. It was flipping fantastic.”
She’s kind enough not to poke at the holes in his memory, the places where fact gets mixed up with fiction, the way he’ll allude to things that never happened. It’s his whole life that’s wrong. He knows that. He remembers parallel tracks. He’s different now, he knows.
“Real or not real? I like black coffee.”
“Not real. Maybe you acquired the taste? I always stole sugar packets and creamer, while you grabbed the coffee and booked it.”
“Real or not real? I got kicked out of school, twice.”
“Real. I got kicked out of school in solidarity, babe.”
“Real or not real? The first thing I remember is waking up, and no one was there.”
i cant stop thinking about the taaco twin antics that YOU KNOW went on in the starblaster
like imagine people mixing them up and taako and lup going out of their way to mess with people. Like dressing in identical outfits and constantly switching places without being noticed and being all shocked like “Wait Magnus, did you just call me Lup? I’m Taako- are you going senile?” then like a minute later they do some evocation magic and everyones surprised “yeah? fire is like- my thing? Are you feeling okay Merle?” etc etc
and one day theyre in a room with barry and barry leaves for a minute and they use magic to swap outfits and they quickly swap seats (and high-five as they pass each other)
then barry walks in and its all they can do to not burst out laughing and barrys like “hey guys why did you switch outfits?” and taako falls out of his fucking chair
consider lup wants a vacation day from reaping so she swaps one day with taako. taako tries his hardest to not flirt with kravitz but the jig is up like halfway through fighting a necromancer
When Taako finally died at the ripe old age of 590, he expected to see what lup told him he would see once he died; a white room with one of his three grim reaper friends in front of him.
But that did not happen.
When Taako died and the world fazed out, he saw a bright flash and then closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, he was in a library.
It was unexpected obviously, this was not what taako had been told would happen.
Taako stood still for a moment, wondering what was going on, when someone cleared their throught.
Taako’s heart swelled once again, and he felt a pit form in his stomach.
Standing in front of him was the last person he’d thought he’d see.
But it wasn’t a bad thing.
Taako was so happy.
He let out a small cry.
The last time Taako had seen Angus McDonald was on his death bed, Angus then being 95 years old.
But this was the Angus Taako had met years ago on the rockport limited, the fancy boy with round glasses and a big blue book.
Angus grins widely.
“Hello again, sir!”
Taako smiles and picks the boy up, hugging him tight.
Ok But for real Taako dropping his disguise spell actually kills me cause you know YOU FUCKING KNOW he was 100% sincere about that shit. You can hear it in his voice, and it actually breaks my heart a little at how he like, actually sounds a little, unsure? like he genuinely thinks Kravitz might feel differently about him now, because of this.
One of my favourite things about Taako is how he’s got this insecure side that we only rarely see? He’s so good at keeping it hidden, pretending like he’s this endless well of confidence, but then you get these little things, here and there. I’m worried nobody else will have me and him immediately glamouring his changed appearance in Wonderland, and so this is what I look like now, and I just wanted you to know in case that changes anything, for you.
And like, the way he INSTANTLY jumps back into troll mode once he’s got that reassurance. Like he has to pretend he didn’t just have this very real, sincere moment., has to pretend like it’s just a prank. cause playing it off like a joke is easier than admitting to being vulnerable. haha that was a actually a test your face is a skull half the time.
I just. I have so many feelings about this scene. I HAVE SO MANY FEELINGS ABOUT TAAKO I LOVE HIM SO MUCH UGH UGHHH
