See I’ve seen like 600 variations of this meme and I gotta tell you a Story.

The year is 2012.  It’s Christmas.  It’s the first year my sister and I are both home from college, and we’re feeling kind of nostalgic, so we take out the old family photo albums to remember everyone from times past.  We’re all on the couch or the floor with hot chocolate and the Dog is curled up under the tree.  It’s all very Norman Rockwell.

We’re going through my Mom’s side of the family, laughing at the pictures of Grandma putting wrapping paper on the dog, and grandpa pulling faces at the camera, when we find an old brown envelope.

“The fuck? says my sister, because she’s been in to Great-Aunt Liz’s Rumballs, and I open the envelope.  Inside are four tickets to the titanic, unused, and Mom tells us the story of how her ancestors ALMOST came over on the Titanic, but Great-Aunt Liz got the measles and forced everyone into quarantine, thus saving their lives.

The OTHER thing in the envelope are seven Photographs, dated 1890.  They are of my Great-Great Grandmother.

They are nudes.

They are NOT tasteful nudes.

Like, these are Violating-Terms-Of-Service-On-Most-Platforms- OBSCENE.

GGG had these taken waaaaay back in ye olden days, in order to convince her wayward husband to move back to England after he ditched her to party it up in Chicago.

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW FUCKING HARD WE LAUGHED.  Like, I think I passed out I was laughing so hard.

So yes, people have ALWAYS been like this, and your nudes will make for a hilarious family Christmas someday.

I think the only reason why they’re more aparent this generation is because we aren’t hindered by taking 30 minutes just for one pic and being limited by the amount of film we have. Not to mention knowing instantly what a pic will look like rather than having to develop them and shit.

so yeah, it says more about the progression of cameras than generations.

Petition to have Tumblr actually do something about porn blog bots following users.

teejay-the-raichu:

mapmatthew:

• It’s annoying.
• It gives an imperfect metric for how many followers you have. (I would estimate about 25% of my “followers” are porn blogs run by bots).
• It makes pulling up your activity page iffy even if you use Tumblr strictly for SFW content.
• It’s problematic for individuals who have struggled with sex and/or pornography addictions, especially since many of the blog names are not obviously porn names, causing you to preview the blog.
• It exposes minors to illegal and harmful content.

And to many of us:
• It’s disgusting.
• it’s degrading to human beings, especially women.
• It makes Tumblr a less classy, less reputable place.

Please share this if you agree this is a serious problem.

Please

listen we’re always pushing back against anti-vaxxers with the science showing that no, vaccines don’t cause autism, but can we please talk about the underlying problem here which is that people hate autistic children?

even if the poorly researched pseudo-science was right and vaccines had any link to autism in children, i would still want myself and my children vaccinated because guess what, there’s nothing wrong with autistic people.

what i hear when people say they don’t want their children vaccinated against deadly illnesses because they believe that vaccines cause autism is not just that they’re horribly misinformed, but that they’d rather have a sick, dying, or dead child than an autistic child. and honestly, that’s pretty fucked up and just goes to show that neurotypical people don’t view us as people who are equally entitled to life.

Tumblr REALLY needs to learn when something is a design choice done intentionally or for fun and when something is a racist/sexist/LGBTphobic caricature.

THIS is a racist caricature.

image

The various races represented here are grossly exaggerated and narrowed down to the utmost basic of their character traits, with the white guy being the most formal and the other races looking more savage.

THIS is NOT a racist caricature.

image

These are taking known characters and redesigning them to perhaps show what they would look like as a different ethnicity. Their designs do not boil down to exaggerated stereotypes.

THIS is a sexist caricature.

image

Women are inherently being represented as unable to do the most mundane of tasks, such as opening a bottle. On top of that, the woman is pretty, with lipstick and primped hair and nice nails, as only pretty girls can be in advertisements.

THIS is NOT a sexist caricature.

image

Each character is unique and has their own talents and skills, and even if the two girls are conventionally ‘pretty’, they are represented as incredibly smart and capable.

THIS is a transphobic caricature.

image

It represented the ‘trans woman’ as just a man in women’s clothes - notably as an ugly man with overly masculine features - and attempts to represent trans women as a threat to children despite literally no evidence to that claim.

THIS is NOT a transphobic caricature.

image

These characters who were originally male are being reinterpreted as women (not men in drag). This is an experiment in design, not a message that men and women are the only genders.

The major point in all of these is intent. In the first images, the intent is clearly to offend and misrepresent. In the second images, the intent is clearly to explore new designs and character reinterpretations.

So the next time you want to complain that people who draw Lucio as a Junker are racist or people who genderbend the Ed Edd n Eddy cast are transphobic, maybe consider the intent of the artist and realize that NOT EVERYTHING IS MADE TO OFFEND YOU.

We need to especially nail the R63 home because I’ve seen way to many artists called transphobic for gender-flips,
