the pineapple on pizza post is basically the equivalent of kids on the playground going “No I shot you” “But I have armor” “But my shots go through armor”
don’t send this person hate, but please spread this so that everyone knows they traced my art big time. and report the post so that it gets taken down, if the OP won’t.
this was really wrong of you to do.
i still think about this a lot.
i messaged this person and told them they should make a public apology and message every single person who reblogged it. they asked “can i just reblog your post instead?” and did that. then reblogged a bunch of stuff later to cover it up. and when i messaged them again to ask if they could tell everyone to take it down, they just…dropped their blog? they stopped posting after that.
i had to message over 500 people MYSELF and the post still has reblogs. it still has people saying “wow great art style! art by OP” when this is a direct trace with hardly anything altered. it is MY art and MY hard work they’re getting credit for. does anyone even care how much that hurts me and other artists this has happened to? or do you trace things thinking we’ll never find out and that it will never impact our lives?
TWICE now this story has happened: i went on twitter and saw someone using MY ART with credit to someone i’d never heard of. i went to their tumblr and saw that they reposted my art! and when i messaged them, they tried to make excuses and act like it was my fault for being mad at them. saying stuff like “well i saw it on facebook and there was no credit” or “i never said it was mine!” if you don’t think the art belongs to the artist, DON’T USE IT. you may repost images and never claim them to be yours, but people don’t know that. they assume it’s yours if you’re posting it, AND YOU GET CREDIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK. don’t repost if you do not have permission, and do not use art as anything unless the artist says it’s okay. if you can’t find that, ASK. not seeing it doesn’t give you the OK to do it!!!! (don’t take away from this paragraph “so i can repost if i say i don’t claim the images as mine!” because that’s not what i’m saying. go back and read it again.)
people constantly repost my art when i explicitly said not to, trace my art, crop out my signature and claim it’s theirs, use it in videos without asking, use it as icons without asking… you guys are losing artists because of this. it’s not on us to make sure you all behave, so i don’t want to hear the “it’s your fault for posting it in the first place” excuse. it’s not suddenly on me because someone else decided to disrespect me. do you expect us to stand by and pretend this doesn’t happen for the sake of staying neutral on this issue and not losing any followers? artists are scared to speak up when this happens because we will always be painted as whiny and entitled. i guess we should just let everyone step on us and never rant about this issue like i’m doing now, because then we stop being your perfect idols and show that we’re human beings creating these images for you.
i am a nice person. i generally like everyone and respond kindly to messages. but that doesn’t mean i have no right to be angry, or that getting upset over this means i’m now a scary and horrible person. i’m just a living, breathing human being with feelings. i’m a swimmer, i love cats, i have green eyes, my favorite food is peaches, and i love LUSH bath bombs. i am a person, like you, with goals and ambitions, heartaches, struggles, favorite things, friends, etc etc. do not draw a line between us and think it’s okay to do anything you want to me because i’m just words behind a screen. these are MY words: i’m a 21 year old girl sitting in my room with the fan on and typing this, i have tears in my eyes, and i just ate lunch. i’m a person typing these words you’re reading.
respect artists. i’ll never forget this happened, and some people will always think this art belonged to the person who traced it. they’ll get compliments, commission offers, and followers that should have all gone to me instead. it impacts my career just as much as it does my heart.
please stop doing this. i’m a real person who gets hurt.
Wait, people are taking this scene as a sign of gender confusion on Pidge?
My dude.
She can’t read the symbols.
She can’t tell which is which.
They had this exact same gag on Spongebob, 17 years ago.
It’s further emphasized by the fact that pidge was waiting for someone to come out to get a clue of which was which but when one came out it was impossible to tell what gender they were.
