Wait – people know that Plinko isn’t a made-up word, right?
I mean, it’s a made-up word in the sense that all words are made up, but it had a prior meaning. I keep seeing posts where it’s included in a list of gibberish words we made up For The Meme recently, but…Plinko is a game from The Price Is Right. It’s been around for almost forty years.
Don’t get me wrong, Horse Plinko is still a great gif and also fun to say, but the reason it’s called that is that it’s a horse falling through a big plinko game….
Pog as slang comes from the twitch emote, taken from a video with pogs in them. What is a pog? A small cap from a juice drink that is traded and used in games by 90s kids. The juice drink was called POG, short for passion fruit orange guava. Passion fruit was named after its flower, the passion flower. Passion flowers were called “flower of the five wounds” in Portuguese, eventually being translated as passion fruit by the English in reference to the passion of Jesus, aka his last moments alive before being crucified.

i also think it’s funny that “horse plinko” is getting lumped in with these other nonsense phrases when both of the words it contains have very much already existed for a long time. i didnt grow up watching price is right on my sick days off from elementary school for tweens on tumblr to pretend plinko is a word they made up
i feel like we should also bring back bode in terms of made up silly words
