The 1950s were not perfect and they were especially bad for women and minorities, the LGBTQ community, anyone with mental health issues, victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sex abuse, sexual harassment. It was harder to get a formal education. Schools were segregated. Smoking was rampant. People died from all cancers. I wouldn’t want to go back.
I will be part of the landscape. I will have raised my children and they their own to believe in equality, love without borders, and diversity as more than words. They will be respectful, responsible, and resilient. They will work together for a better world. Someday our society will look beyond race, gender, religion, and other things which divide us. We will finally just become humans nothing more and nothing less.
This last paragraph should become everyone’s oath to themselves and all others.
GO 👏 THE 👏 FUCK 👏 OFF. Also, the American educational system is trash. I applaud this child’s parents for giving her a voice and standing up against bias authority.
(Can someone caption this?)
Classroom full of mostly black and brown students:
Black student: [unintelligible—and then] …and then throwing everything away beneath it because it doesn’t pertain to you. I’m sorry —
White teacher: —you know what, I’m sorry -I’m sorry…
Black student: —No, no, no…I let you talk -I let you talk, you’re gonna let me talk.
[Other students gasps]
White student: Go ahead. Finish.
Black student: I’m sorry that this is the way that it is. You’re right, it is fucked up. But white people control everything…and that’s not fair. And when anybody, any other minority tries to say anything about it or change it, we’re complaining or we’re ungrateful or all this other stuff because we still have this or that. But then you say something about ‘Oh, I don’t want—there’s too many Latinos and there’s too many—’
White teacher: I didn’t say that—
[Various students disagree]
White teacher: I said I want to control the border!
Black student: You said you don’t want this to turn into a Latin country because there’ll be too many
White teacher: I did not say that.
[Various students disagree]
Student 2: You said you want to preserve the American culture.
Black student: There is no American culture. American culture is EVERYTHING.
[Various students agree]
Random: Mayonnaise!
[Students laugh]
Black student: And because you are white and so closed-minded, you refuse to accept that, you refuse to accept—
White teacher: Don’t tell me I’m closed-minded—
Black student: Everything you’ve said to me is closed-minded.
White teacher: Just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I’m closed-minded.
Black student: You don’t need to agree—I -I’ve had conversations with people that don’t agree with me, but if they at least listen and try to accept—you’re not accepting the truth.
White teacher: Why do I have to accept what you think is right?
Black student: You need to accept the truth! Not what I think is right, what is actually happening right—
White teacher: Well, let me tell you what I think. You said white people have been in control of everything….who is the president of the United States right now?!
Students: A black man!
*Various sounds of incredulity*
Black student: WITH A WHITE CONGRESS! WITH A WHITE SENATE! WITH WHITE EVERYTHING ELSE! HE DOESN’T HAVE THE CONTROL OF EVERYTHING!
Random: GO OFF
Other Random: GO OFF–
*The class is in an uproar*
Random student: YOU ARE SO PRIVILEGED THAT YOU JUST DON’T SEE IT!
White teacher: Do we have to yell?!
Black student: Yes, because I’m mad.
FRY HIM
Oh but these are today’s “weak” millenial students who demand to be “coddled” right? At least, that’s what teachers turn around and say because suddenly their students aren’t afraid to disagree with authority
The most hilarious thing about the Crystal Kingdom arc is Kravitz talking about bounties and how the boys have the biggest ones he’s ever seen, as if he works 9/5 for rent money.
Like, my dude, you’re dead. You live on a plane primarily inhabited by swirling, immortal souls. The most material thing on it is a jail. You work for a goddess. Kravitz has a body, but evidence suggests that it’s more for show than anything, seeing how he can also inhabit robots or work through crystalline monsters.
What is he getting paid in, afterlife brownie points? Raven feathers? Pats on the head from his godly boss? Or is he just trying to keep up his three century long Employee of the Month streak?
I always headcanoned it’s years of “life”
like, complete a high bounty and you get a couple of decades in which you aren’t bound to the astral plain.
(TAZ SPOILERS)
i was doing my usual thinkin abt taako and how much i love this undeniably mexican elf and then i started thinking abt dia de los muertos and how i like to think high elves could have a celebration similar to that, of course.
and then i started thinking about taako doing the face paint (messily, as he do) when that time of year rolls around. and then i started thinking about kravitz showing up while taako’s painting his face and at first he’s like “…are you cosplaying me?” but taako’s like “naw dude it’s this thing we do back in new elfington to like, remember people you knew, who like, died and shit.” so kravitz asks “oh, that’s nice. who are you remembering?” and taako stops because. he knows he’s doing this for a reason. he’s gotta be doing this for somebody, right? he just… can’t put his chipped fingernail on it.
*arrives three month late with a vine compilation*
I’ve never seen most of these AND there was my beloved fresh avocado so A+ all around.
Lmao the guy who slaps the ping pong ball in beer pong is my boyfriends brother
My friends wanna try a D&D campaign soon and invited me to try and play! Who knows how I’ll actually like it, but it seems interesting! This is my centaur/ranger character, Kirin. She’s based on an Akhal-Teke, was raised by her herd in the desert, and is VERY skittish and dependent. Her main priority is her own safety and the preservation of her herd.
Thanks @obliqueuncertainty for helping create her character sheet and for DMing <3
