*taps mic* American soldiers fighting in imperialist wars are not brave nor are they fighting for anyone’s freedom. They are mercilessly slaughtering 3rd world civilians and fighting to maintain American hegemony. That is all, thank you! *drops mic*
*picks up mic* Also many soldiers are being exploited by the American government/elite who encourage the idea that joining the military is a good alternative to college or joining the work force, especially for impoverished individuals who feel that they don’t have many options. *gently places mic back down*
*picks up mic* Lets not forget also recruit very young people right out of high school- people so young they cannot legally rent a car or drink here. Not to mention that our culture is rife with propaganda specifically funded by the US government +military to make enlisting appealing to the young like some episode of black mirror, like war films (yes!! most are directly funded by the military!) and war video games. We also have programs in our actual high schools that are designed as pre-recruitment called ROTC * so if you’re wondering why so many people find themselves there aside, from just being poor and desperate, here are your reasons! *drops mic*
