stop telling black girls that they need to flat iron their hair straight for certain events like a prom or something formal. stop telling black girls that their natural hair in its natural state can’t be formal or professional.

Honestly, bless Rebecca Sugar and her writers for the type of character that they made Steven into. Here’s this male character who not only shows emotion, but thrives on his emotions, his kindness, and his ability to compromise and show empathy. I think the kind of representation that SU gives to women and non-gender binary people is amazing, and I love it so much, but I also really appreciate that the show is giving little boys this incredibly genuine and emotionally open male character to look up to. So often men and boys in shows and movies are written to be emotionally stunted and incapable of kindness.

Double bless the writers for the way they write Greg to be a legitimately good father who communicates with his son and does his best to understand him.

Triple bless the writers for not turning greg into a jerk after he becomes rich and not losing everything. Any other show would have had a character who comes into a shit ton of money be consumed by their greed and become an asshole before losing everything but greg is still jsut as humble as he was before

I just realized what they're doing with Starlight. We haven't actually seen her learning anything. But in this episode and her other ones, her and Twilight will talk about how she's learning about friendship and how she's learned so much. What they're doing is giving her character development by telling us she's had it, by talking about all this growth she's been having off-screen. No she hasn't. I never saw it.

thedenofravenpuff:

Yeah, all this talk about friendship lessons and studiesfrom  off screen.

I understand Starlight as the Student of Friendship was probably meant as the replacement of the diary entries, which in turn had replaced the letters to Celestia, as a way to hammer in the episode’s moral.

But never sat well with me with this version and how hammered in it gets about “you learn friendship like in school with teacher and student” setup. Yes Starlight has had plenty of lessons on screen, she has delivered morals even to Twilight showing our dear princess is still learning too.

But when it’s not their turn they always talk about the friendship lessons as actual studies you do up to a test. Understandable, since they are both booksmart ponies. ESPECIALLY Twilight who can’t help but freaking write studies the size of full books on everything and got a reference guide for possible friendship problems and solutions. As much good as that ever did for her.

Still, don’t want complain too much about it. Still an interesting concept to let Twilight grow into the role as mentor with a student of her own, as part of her own further growth whole Starlight is still growing too. To become a better mare than she once were.

I wouldn’t say she’s not making progress. She learned a lot when she met her old friend that one time. And was excited to see him again.

what i learned today while tallying homestuck statistics:

theenglishmanwithallthebananas:

Dave has no idea how to end a conversation. I mean, I knew he just never shut the fuck up, but i’m trying to tally the number of conversations and in acts 1-4, and dave has had like, 8, total. cause whenever someone else says goodbye he just keeps talking at them until they eventually come back instead of actually signing out of pesterchum like a normal person

my favorite part of this is how he’s literally exactly the same in real life conversations too. like in openbound pretty much everyone just sort of wanders away during conversations with him and he. just. keeps. going. and then in the finale karkat pretty much confirms that that’s a daily thing with him. Dave is just completely incapable of actually ending conversations and i love him.
