I recently went through an ordeal on this app where, despite explaining multiple times that my Original Character “Jonathan Commentar” does not exist, people continued to insist that my fake screen shots featuring his comments might be real, due to “Poe’s Law.” This inspired me to conduct a scientific investigation into Poe and his law, which can be watched in full HERE

Sometimes I see people accuse Star Trek: The Original Series of queerbaiting or wondering why they didn’t just make Kirk/Spock canon. So to put things in perspective for you the last episode aired on the 3rd of June 1969, the Stonewall Riots started 25 days later on the 28th of June 1969.

Bro someone told me he could never watch TOS because he wasn’t a fan of queer baiting and I felt really bad about it but I laughed in his face 😳

TOS had to fight for an interracial kiss, there was no way in Hell that they could have gotten away with a gay one.

Not to mention that while Roddenberry found the concept “interesting” when it was brought up later, he didn’t actually intend for K/S to be a thing. He never discouraged it, but it wasn’t something that was on his radar (and why would it be? He was a straight white man in the 1960s).

Queerbaiting requires a certain level of malice aforethought. In this case it was a case of what I’m going to call gentle ignorance—he had no idea it would come across to fans as homoerotic, but once it was brought to his attention he was like “huh. Okay.”

I saw George Takei speak at my college and he actually brought up the fact that after the Kirk/Uhura kiss he asked if there could be a same-sex kissing scene and was told no, because even the interracial kiss almost got the show booted.

When we talk about how Korrasami walked so The Owl House could fly, we’re not seeing too much of the history of creators pushing for representation that was never aired.

These kids really don’t know just how illegal gay stuff was until really recently.

He lost his wife too didn't he? Good

Alex Jones? His wife divorced him a while back. He claims he can’t remember what he said that caused his wife to leave him because “he ate a big bowl of chilli”

I’m not joking.

his wife got full custody of their kids by playing one of his infowars videos in front of the court. That will always be my favorite alex jones fact.

I’m on the photographer’s side here.

The original Reddit post

Tl;dr version: The groom asked a friend, the (not professional) photographer, to do his wedding for $250. The photographer then spent 8 hours without food or drink in 110º heat. After not being served anything, they asked to groom to take a break to get some damn food, and the groom said they were fired if they left. So, they deleted the photos and left.

Team photographer all the way.

I have a zero tolerance policy for transphobia in my youtube comments: if someone is maliciously transphobic even once then I not only remove their comment, I mute that user across my entire channel and add the transphobic term they used to the list of words that automatically mutes the comment. Since I started doing this I’ve noticed a MASSIVE improvement in my comments: like, the first video after I came out there was loads of transphobia, the second one less, the third one even less, and now it’s been almost 24 hours and there’s been like 10? This leads me to two related conclusions:

1) Transphobes aren’t very original: they keep using the same stock phrases so it’s very easy to filter them out

2) There aren’t that many of them. It’s just the same few hundred assholes every time.

This would also imply that even the most basic level of moderation would fix these platforms and the fact that these platforms haven’t invested in these basic reforms is on purpose

One time this man approached me in a bar talking in Spanish. So I assumed he was Spanish and we started speaking, we had a whole ass conversation and at some point he was like. So what part of Spain are you from? And I said well I’m Italian actually. What part of Spain are you from? And he was like. I’m Greek.

One time I was in Argentina and I was so tired of trying to speak Spanish because I’m not very good at it lmao so I broke into exasperated English and the retail seller girl quickly understood me and engaged me in conversation. We talked for a while, she introduced me to a makeup brand, and then I decided to buy it. While she was packaging the purchase, she asked me if I were from the US or perhaps the UK and I just said “oh no I’m Brazilian hahah” and she looked me straight in the eyes and said, in clear Portuguese, “I’m Brazilian too”

When my dad went to China on a work trip, his Mandarin speaking wasn’t great but his listening was fine (his first language is Cantonese) and he encountered a German guy who had moved to China to work. My dad knew how to speak German because he studied it in university (but wasn’t great when it came to listening to new vocab he hadn’t studied before), and the German guy knew Mandarin because he lived and worked in China, so they had a conversation where my dad spoke to the German guy in German and the guy responded in Mandarin. I’m sure it confused a lot of their coworkers who just saw the Asian guy speaking German and the white guy speaking Mandarin.

Some years ago, I worked for a manufacturing company that had a service depot in China.  One of the engineers from the main office here in the US spent most of his time at the depot.  The problem was that he didn’t speak *any* of the various Chinese languages, and no one at the depot spoke any English.

They all, however, spoke Spanish.
