Silver Tongue

bishkebab:

Anti Ace discourse has taken this fascinating new turn where people are complaining that considering asexuality an orientation instead of just a description of sex drive would somehow prevent gay people who don’t want to have sex from claiming their identity, as if asexuals are trying to dictate other people’s identities (they’re not) and as if romantic and sexual attraction can’t possibly be distinct things at all and sexual attraction 100% correlates to libido only, and as if LGBT spaces and discourse automatically include people who don’t experience sexual attraction in their narratives and never assume same gender attraction to mean “romantic and sexual attraction”, and as if there are hundreds of True Queers who are harmed by the very existence of asexuality as an identity (despite the overwhelming majority of anecdotes on those posts being from people for whom discovering the existence of asexuality helped them affirm their identities), and as if aro/ace people don’t exist….

I mean….gender, sexual orientation, attraction, sex….these are all socially defined concepts/constructs, and in a society where orientations were and always had been clearly defined as “romantic AND/OR sexual attraction”, and/or sexual attraction was automatically described on a scale, and/or desire for sex wasn’t assumed to be part of attraction, asexuality as a distinct orientation might not exist…. except, you know, ARO/ACE PEOPLE EXIST

I know what you mean. Someone tried to claim that by me being ace, I’m somehow homophobic.

If you don’t think ace people are just as valid and face the same challenges as every other LGBT person

LMAO literally this shit abt “heterosensual” and “heteroaesthetic” or whatever is somethin the LGBTA+ community has perpetuated itself

youve prescribed this HORRIBLE STIGMA to being specifically attracted - sexually or romantically - to the opposite gender, which has pushed the asexuals and aromantics out of spaces that THEY SHOULD FEEL SAFE IN

there is a fucking reason there is an A in the acronym and it isn’t for allies - months ago, we were still fighting for that simple truth. today? we’re forcing asexuals and aromantics out of safe spaces because they have “straight privilege”

the reason these new terms have been invented is because we’re excluding people who should inherently be in these spaces because they’re in the FUCKING ACRONYM, and they feel they have to distance themselves from the “STRAIGHTS” because we’ve put such a goddamn negative stigma to that

asexuals and aromantics do not experience the same sort of oppression as gay people, bi people, pan people, and so on. but, here’s something to think about too:

bi people and gay people do not experience the same form of oppression

bi people and trans people do not experience the same form of oppression.

just because ace and aro people don’t experience the GAY OPPRESSION, they experience an oppression unique to them - and you can’t even say that the oppression an asexual person experiences is the same to an aromantic persons.

they are dehumanized, they are attacked, they are OPPRESSED.

and it is fucking disgusting that we have contributed to this oppression when we’re all supposed to be on the same side.

The LGBTA community in general is toxic to anyone who isn’t lesbian, gay or a trans in a opposite gender relationship.

the LGBT community only cares about the L and the G but only if they are hetero because according to them, a trans person in a same sex relationship has “straight privilages” because people within the community tend to look at their relationships before their gender. Seriously, if you exclude anything other than the L and the G then fuck you because you’re just as toxic as the all the other shitty people.

fuck you guys honestly

#there is no a#and your homophobia is showing

Actually there is an A. It stands for asexual.

nah bro

#just admit you hate gay people :0)

I don’t hate gay people. I never said I do. I hate are people excluding the other members of the LGBTA community. The people who claim that bi people need to choose or that ace people don’t exist. I hate bigots.

the “ace experience” is different than the “gay/bi experience” there arent bible bumpers that wish you were dead

No, there’s just the constant belittling because we don’t care for sex as well as the lack of representation in media. Even lesbians and gay people have a little bit of representation but if there’s an asexual, the fandom tends to erase their ace identity. Oh, and corrective rape is something that exists. Asexuals have a high chance of being a victim of sexual violence. Unfortunately we don’t have a place where we can feel welcome because the community that’s supposed to welcome us in tend to forget we even exist or claim that just by existing we are somehow oppressing them.
