“matpat gave the pope undertale” sounds way different than “matpat met the pope while representing the YouTube gaming community and it’s customary to give the pope a gift that’s reflective of the culture your represent and he chose undertale, a game about choices, consequences and reflect and peace/love”
Yeah, “matpat met the pope while representing the YouTube gaming community” is actually even more ridiculous so I’m not sure context makes this one better
Out of all the games, Undertale? God that’s cringey.
Why? The whole game is about mercy and this is the popes year of mercy. Also its a game that breaks stereotypes which is what mat pat wanted to do. Or is it cringy because the game was a big hit with a large fanbase?

Here lemme add to OP to clear things up: It’s customary to give a gift that represents your culture. Since MatPat’s American, he figured the Pope already pretty much gets what American culture’s all about, so he wanted to do something a little more specific, unique and meaningful. Additionally, he realized that any attitude most people have outside of the internet community toward gamers (or youtubers, or fans of a specific thing, etc) would be defined fully by what’s reported in the media. Mainstream reports on “gamers” as a whole are generally negative and focused on violence. MatPat’s response to this was to offer an immensely popular and successful game that preaches pacifism.
It’s weird at face value, but he clearly put a ton of thought into it.
Also he acknowledged that the pope probably won’t play it but it’s a symbolic gesture. A game about mercy for the popes year of mercy. Also mat pat was invited by the pope along with ten other YouTube personalities. So really it’s the pope met matpat
Okay so comparing gamers to Actually Oppressed Groups isn't implying gamers are oppressed gotcha shut the fuck up gamers don't have a fucking culture and y'all aren't hated until you pull bullshit like this go the fuck outside for once in your life

He didn’t compare them. He used it to explain availability heugenics kn a way that’s easy to understand. And then explained why availability heugenocs are why people assume negative things about the gaming community. He was there to talk about the gaming community.
Oh my god you're so stupid

Really because every complaint has been addressed already and yet you still are here. Just saying"you’re so stupid" without giving a reason why tells me you don’t have a reason other than you disagree with it. Funny thing is, it doesn’t matter if you disagree or not, fact is fact. And the fact is that the pope invited him, mat pat gave a symbolic gesture and then explained why using current events to help people understand.

Not to mention that he gave the pope what amounts to a cheap $4 gift, or that the pope doesn’t even own a computer.
So tell me why the YT gaming community even needed to send an ambassador to the pope in the first place?
And even if, for some inane fucking reason it was decided that such an ambassador need be sent…fuckin’ MatPat? Who does he represent? How? Why?
I mean, yeah, he’s pretty much the embodiment of a shit-tier, lowest-common-denominator pleb, but that’s not who you send as an ambassador for anything. *HYPERBOLE INCOMING:* This is like sending DSP on a diplomatic mission to Britain. Someone might get a laugh out of it, but WHO WOULD MAKE THAT DECISION AND THEN FINANCE IT?
Why was he the epitome of the gaming community on youtube. He just smashes stuff together ot make theories. What about, dare I say it, Pewdiepie, who can make games break or live just by uttering a yea or nay about them?
Are you questioning the popes decision on who to invite? There were ten other yoitubers other than mat pat.
He literally talked about how gamers are oppressed like gay ppl and non white ppl shut the fcuk up

No he didn’t. He was using Muslims as an example to explain availability heugenics to people who might not quite understand it. It’s where people form a negative opinion because all they here is negative things so they assume it’s all negative. In regards to Muslims, news only report about Muslims in the context of terrorism so people assume the majority are terrorists despite only a few being terrorist and there being many non Muslim terrorists. Maybe you should actually look up the context of the stuff he said instead of forming your argument on hearsay.

Well the pope did. He organized an event with 11 youtubers to discuss how the internet brings people together. Mat pat represents the gaming side and had to bring a gift to reflect that. So it’s a bit inaccurate to say that mat pat met the pope and more accurate to say the pope met mat pat since mat pat was the one invited.
hardcore Catholic people aren’t mad. The pope was pretty happy to learn about this generation. Honestly, I think the people who are mad are the ones who hate anything popular. Or should I say pope-ular
