Yes he did. He was chosen to represent YouTube gaming because the whole event was about how the internet brings people together because YouTube is one of the biggest social media sites with gaming being it’s largest community. He DID have business meeting the pope

in 2014 we had dashcon and 2015 brought us sonic-for-real-justice, and I was getting disappointed that there wasn’t another absurd summer trainwreck on this website to follow, but matpat came to the fucking rescue and gave a steam code for undertale to the literal pope
if you watch his video about it you’ll know it actually fucking means something symbolically, it’s not just for shits and giggles
yeah it means he considers Gamer an identity on par with racial groups and sexualities and uses the Orlando shootings to say how gamers need respect “now more than ever” don’t even pretend this is anything other than a colossal trainwreck of a world event
No, he was saying that people assume gamers are all shits and the game is about breaking stereotypes. The whole reason he was there was to represent gamers in a panel about how the internet brings people together.
