({so, i'm kinda wondering, the Z moves kinda do the same as the mega stones right? why aren't there side effects from those? also, i think the key stone balances things out mostly, or else they couldn't revert back to the nonmega})

bevendre:

In a sense, but all that a Z move does is magnify what’s there for a single burst of power, regardless of whether the Pokemon would naturally be able to sustain such a thing.  It wouldn’t surprise me if there were side effects of some sort that will be brought up in later games, that tends to happen with Pokemon.

The Key Stone is required to achieve Mega Evolution, and from all indications is naturally occurring but inert without input from a human.

Well the keystones are from cosmic radiation left after a meteor hit the planet. So you’re basically blasting them with radiation to give them super powers.

Ill never see megaevolution in the same way

… This isn’t as new as people seem to think it is. Mega Lucario has always been relentless and brutal. Mega Glalie has always had a broken jaw. It was only in supplementary materials and stuff, so it was hard to find and relatively unknown, but the dangers of Mega Evolution have always been around.

AND THAT’S THE THING. That’s where the ‘love and trust’ from X and Y comes in.

Because Mega Evolution is psychotically dangerous for a lot of Pokemon. So they need a skilled trainer that they trust to see them safely through it. Because that love and trust lets them stay in control of themselves

Because if they have that, they can rise to ever higher heights. They can get closer to being the best. Because Pokemon are competitive by nature, and most of them want to be the strongest. To be a master, right?

If you Mega Evolve your Pokemon, you’re not being cruel to your Pokemon and forcing them through terrible pain for more power. You and your Pokemon are, together, making the decision to do something dangerous, because you trust each other to make it through safely, because you trust each other to make use of this terrifying power and come out on top.

Mega Evolution is scary as hell, but it’s not evil unless you make it so.

This.

Remember what happened to Korrina’s Lucario after it gained it’s Mega Evolution in the Anime?

And how Korrina had to painstakingly bond with it again, despite being years soulmates with it?

I do.

I wonder if all pokemon go berserk like this when they mega evolve for the first time…

This is half the reason I have never been a fan of mega evolutions. Anyone who would dramatically hurt their pokemon just for a slight boost in stats is heartless.

Evolution in Pokemon has always had instances of physical and mental strain in individuals and throughout species. Mega Evolution is no different, just more temporary and comparatively noticeable because of it.  As for the boost in stats, adding 100 to the base stat total is far from a slight increase.

Regular evolution is a part of life for them, no different from the pain that people get when they hit their growth spurt. Mega evolution is more like breaking someones limbs and giving them PTSD to make them better at fighting, but you have to do it every time there’s a new fight.

Regular evolution is a part of life for Pokemon because, in general, they enjoy competition and fighting, and while it’s no different than a growth spurt for some it’s much more than that for other species.  Mega Evolution isn’t breaking their limbs to make them artificially better, Mega Evolution is a means of pushing past natural limits to tap into what’s already there and buried.  It’s the second wind, the runner’s high after a stitch, and it’s made beneficial through the bond between trainer and Pokemon.  The means that cause Mega Evolution are all naturally occurring, but the actual act only happens to a Pokemon that is close to its trainer.

If you don’t like it, don’t like it, but don’t try to make it into a travesty against nature when the games, anime, manga, etc. explicitly point it out as a heightening of the relationship between the Pokemon and the trainer.

Chiune Sugihara. This man saved 6000 Jews. He was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania. When the Nazis began rounding up Jews, Sugihara risked his life to start issuing unlawful travel visas to Jews. He hand-wrote them 18 hrs a day. The day his consulate closed and he had to evacuate, witnesses claim he was STILL writing visas and throwing from the train as he pulled away. He saved 6000 lives. The world didn’t know what he’d done until Israel honored him in 1985, the year before he died.

Why can’t we have a movie about him?

He was often called “Sempo”, an alternative reading of the characters of his first name, as that was easier for Westerners to pronounce.

His wife, Yukiko, was also a part of this; she is often credited with suggesting the plan. The Sugihara family was held in a Soviet POW camp for 18 months until the end of the war; within a year of returning home, Sugihara was asked to resign - officially due to downsizing, but most likely because the government disagreed with his actions.

He didn’t simply grant visas - he granted visas against direct orders, after attempting three times to receive permission from the Japanese Foreign Ministry and being turned down each time. He did not “misread” orders; he was in direct violation of them, with the encouragement and support of his wife.

He was honoured as Righteous Among the Nations in 1985, a year before he died in Kamakura; he and his descendants have also been granted permanent Israeli citizenship. He was also posthumously awarded the Life Saving Cross of Lithuania (1993); Commander’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (1996); and the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2007). Though not canonized, some Eastern Orthodox Christians recognize him as a saint.

Sugihara was born in Gifu on the first day of 1900, January 1. He achieved top marks in his schooling; his father wanted him to become a physician, but Sugihara wished to pursue learning English. He deliberately failed the exam by writing only his name and then entered Waseda, where he majored in English. He joined the Foreign Ministry after graduation and worked in the Manchurian Foreign Office in Harbin (where he learned Russian and German; he also converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church during this time). He resigned his post in protest over how the Japanese government treated the local Chinese citizens. He eventually married Yukiko Kikuchi, who would suggest and encourage his acts in Lithuania; they had four sons together. Chiune Sugihara passed away July 31, 1986, at the age of 86. Until her own passing in 2008, Yukiko continued as an ambassador of his legacy.

It is estimated that the Sugiharas saved between 6,000-10,000 Lithuanian and Polish Jewish people.

It’s a tragedy that the Sugiharas aren’t household names. They are among the greatest heroes of WWII. Is it because they were from an Axis Power? Is it because they aren’t European? I don’t know. But I’ve decided to always reblog them when they come across my dash. If I had the money, I would finance a movie about them.

He told an interviewer:

You want to know about my motivation, don’t you? Well. It is the kind of sentiments anyone would have when he actually sees refugees face to face, begging with tears in their eyes. He just cannot help but sympathize with them. Among the refugees were the elderly and women. They were so desperate that they went so far as to kiss my shoes, Yes, I actually witnessed such scenes with my own eyes. Also, I felt at that time, that the Japanese government did not have any uniform opinion in Tokyo. Some Japanese military leaders were just scared because of the pressure from the Nazis; while other officials in the Home Ministry were simply ambivalent.

People in Tokyo were not united. I felt it silly to deal with them. So, I made up my mind not to wait for their reply. I knew that somebody would surely complain about me in the future. But, I myself thought this would be the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong in saving many people’s lives….The spirit of humanity, philanthropy…neighborly friendship…with this spirit, I ventured to do what I did, confronting this most difficult situation—and because of this reason, I went ahead with redoubled courage.

He died in nearly complete obscurity in Japan. His neighbors were shocked when people from all over, including Israeli diplomatic personnel, showed up at quiet little Mr. Sugihara’s funeral.

I will forever reblog this, I wish more people would know about them!

I liked this before when it had way less information. Thank you, history-sharers.

Tucked away in a corner in L.A.’s Little Tokyo is a life-sized statue of Chiune, seated on a bench and smiling gently as he holds out a visa.

The stone next to him bears a quote from the Talmud; “He who saves one life, saves the entire world.”

I had no idea it existed until a few weeks ago, but it’s since become one of my favorite pieces of public art.

Chiune Sugihara.  Original antifa.

Anyone who thinks the new Assassins Creed movie sucked, can KISS MY ASS. It was a fantastic movie! Especially for those who have been in the fandom since day one. I totally understand why there we’re a few things out of canon, but it made the movie have more logical sense than it would in a video game. Tl;dr- GO WATCH THIS MOVIE IF YOU’VE BEEN WITH UBISOFT SINCE DAY ONE, GO GO GO.

1) they expensive bruh 2) none of us kno the dif btwn a fucking diamond and some fancy ass glass ur capitalist rock hierarchy has no control over us

3) mostly mined with slave labor

4) we get excited when our date buys us an appetizer, we don’t even comprehend people buying us rocks that would force us into debt for ten years

5) They aren’t actually that rare and the price is artificially inflated.

Pro tip from a former Jared’s salesperson: You want a sparkly white rock that will look like a diamond to the untrained eye and will literally cost the price of a nice dinner for two? Created white sapphire. They’re lab grown and cost *pennies* to make, so you can get a 1 or 2 carat white sapphire for like… $30-80 probably. You can get one as huge as you like, perfectly clear, perfectly flawless. And no one will ever be able to tell the difference except a professional appraiser. Also, sapphires are the second-hardest gemstone (right after diamonds) so they are very durable! Very unlikely that they’ll chip or crack. Get that bitch set in sterling silver and you are GOOD TO GO. Whole thing should cost you less than $200 unless you get a fancy band with a lot of extra stones. Of course, created sapphires come in every color of the rainbow, so if you want something more exciting than plain white, you TOTALLY CAN.

Created sapphires and silver: The poor Millennial’s engagement ring.

THANK YOU EX-JARED’S BASED GOD.
