2016 in a nutshell
I can’t believe I’m reblogging this three months later with entirely new context

HOly shit, how did I miss this?
It must be weird being the official voice actor for Disney characters. One day, you’re recording for a preschool show. The next day, you’re recording voice clips for toys. The day after that, you’re recording an existential monologue on the duality of light and darkness for a video game series where Mickey Mouse once vowed to avenge Goofy’s death.
so it looks like the safety pin thing has been co-opted by white supremacists. we need other, better ways to show solidarity anyway. wear an “i’ll go with you” pin, if you want that badly to wear a pin, or better yet, stand up for marginalized folks when you see them being harassed (online and irl). join an organization, volunteer your time, donate money, join a protest, if you’re able. wear a “black lives matter” or a “not my president” t shirt. there are so many ways to show solidarity and we need to get started now.
Less than a day after my prediction. Who’s surprised?
A reason I tend not to forward these actions… if it isn’t really really really blatant as an anti-fascist statement, the covert stuff like a simple safety pin, or, the green circles thing I’m seeing going around… is easily co-opted and utilized by the exact groups we’re trying to fight against.
So what do I say? Wear something OBVIOUS that a fascist would be unwilling to wear no matter how badly they want to sabotage your protective movement.
Also, safety pins have been in the wardrobe of white supremacists since I was a teen, which, was decades ago… so… there’s that too.
Then, there’s the horrible horrible fact that any organization across a public utility such as the internet is easily sabotaged and twisted to the advantage of the oppressors.
Depressing… and, annoying.
