It is so important to me that a kids movie had this conversation in it
This movie gave an entire generation of children a script for how to handle this issue. It showed marginalized kids that it’s okay to call people out, and gave them a script for how to do so firmly but with compassion
It also gave privileged kids a script for how to respond to being called out– which is to listen, have compassion, apologize, and never do the problematic thing again
It also managed to convey this to all the adults who brought their kids to the movies, and all the rest of us who just went because we wanted to
alien music is always portrayed as screeching noises and synthesizer but what if aliens like country or something like imagine landing on an alien planet and just hearing twangy space banjo
It’s like watching a car repeatedly drive straight into a wall. It’s unexplainable, it looks like it hurts a lot, but ultimately it ends up being darkly, ironically funny.
From my personal experience being an American on tumblr is like being the person in the BACK of the car praying that the person driving will STOP ramming into the wall.
A lot of us know this shit is stupid and we’re looking out the window like “LOOK THOSE OTHER CARS ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD LETS BE LIKE THEM”
But the driver is like “FUCK YOU! BUILT FORD TOUGH! USA USA USA DONT LIKE IT, GET OUT!” but the doors are locked and the car is now smoking and threatening to catch fire.
Reblogging for the followup comment! ‘cos that’s exactly what it’s like.
I know this is literally ridiculous but
I wish people didn’t get so mad about you not texting them back lol, like 80% of the time I don’t text back it’s just cos I don’t have the mental energy to engage lol
