Do you plan on (or have you) watching/watched Centaurworld? 😊
Honestly I don’t. I barely know anything about the show outside of a very small clip of the trailer, but I can’t lie I wasn’t particularly interested. I’m sure it’s pretty good but as of right now I don’t plan on watching it.
alternianpersonaficaition said: It’s cute, yet dark… A lot darker than you might think from the art style.
Actually I won’t lie, that’s exactly what I expected. A show with a cutesy style but a dark or serious storyline is pretty standard, especially nowadays. Adventure Time is the perfect example of that. I’d argue to say Steven Universe or even Owl House could count too.
Not to say it’s a bad thing though. In fact I think it kinda helps with challenging the tired but still very present idea in American culture that animation = for children. Or the idea that animation can’t be a serious medium of storytelling. Which is far from the truth but ya know how it is.
I can talk at length about all of that but I don’t wanna bore ya’ll with my animation passions so, yep. I expected exactly what you said of Centaurworld, and I’m curious about the story around it but I don’t know if I’d actually sit and watch it. Maybe sometime in the future, but it isn’t exactly in my plans to.
One thing I’d add about the show is that it also isn’t afraid to be silly. This is something I’ve talked about somewhere before, but like, upon reflection I really liked the fact that it doesn’t shy away from- well, being what it is. It plays around with both the cutesy/wacky stuff and more heavy aspects real well.
there is at least one moment that goes a tad overboard for me (this one song in ep3 with the giraffe), but otherwise I for one greatly enjoyed it and plan on rewatching the season soon. Also all the songs are just absolute bangers, it’s been impossible to get myself to stop replaying them
Oh! And the characters. There are a few I don’t particularly care for as of yet (which is to say I like them but, for example, I wouldn’t feel too bad about them getting hurt or knocked off as I would the ones I adore) but the ones I love? I’ve grown way too attached too
altho I would say that given what you’ve said about most of your aus, you might not have a great time with it. Just wanted to share my experience with the show, since it isn’t just a ”cutesy kids show that’s actually secretly brooding and dark” in my mind
I never said it was just a “cutesy kid show with a brooding story”, hell I seriously doubt it’s marketed for kids to begin with. I was pointing out that the “cute style/serious story” trope has gotten a lot more common in recent western animation, but like I said by no means does that mean it’s a bad thing.
I actually do enjoy dark stories or serious stories, I just don’t care to write them myself, especially as a primary focus. I’m sure I’d like Centaurworld if I watched it but as it currently stands there’s nothing really convincing me to. Owl House got me interested because of its animation and worldbuilding, Kipo because it’s character design. Peepadoo because of it’s presentation of “an educational show for adults”, but I haven’t really seen anything about Centaurworld outside of that one clip of its announcement trailer. Which I’m actually surprised about, but then again Netflix doesn’t seem to advertise their shows or movies all that much.
the cutsey nature of centaurworld dives deep into uncanny valley adding to the feeling that somethings wrong throughout the series.
