Peter New addresses Brotherhooves Social and its controversy beautifully.
This guy is a wonderful human being.
This needs to be spread.
Wait I’m confused, did they confirm that Big Mac experiences some sort of dysphoria? Not necessarily gender dysphoria but a dysphoria of some kind?
Well it’s clear in the show that Big Mac doesn’t talk much but has a lot on his mind. It might not be a dysphoria specifically, but it could just be he doesn’t really feel the need to speak his mind much. But that also makes it hard for him whenever issues occur, because he’s not sure how to express himself. He doesn’t seem comfortable saying a whole lot and when emotions get complex, how can you really express them without a lot of words?
I’m pretty sure he didn’t want to sound jealous or upset because he didn’t want Applebloom to feel bad. He didn’t want to feel like he was being selfish, he didn’t want to be jealous of Applejack. He KNOWS Applejack is amazing and has a different kind of bond with Applebloom that he doesn’t share with her and he probably just doesn’t feel right intruding on that because they’re both so happy.
I see Big Mac as an individual who’s more likely to look out for everyone else first and foremost before himself. He’s thought of as thick skinned but deep down he’s very sensitive.
I think he feels he needs to put up this strong persona as the only male in his family household. But BEING the only male in the household, he’s also learned to be sensitive and embrace the feminine.
This is likely why he’s so open and free as Orchard Blossom, because as a female he doesn’t have to put on the strong silent male persona.
Okay. Thanks for explaining it to me. Because he has to appear strong for his family which consists of a baby sister who is always getting into trouble, a sister who is always off putting her life at risk and an elderly grandmother who is always getting into trouble, he feels like putting his own needs before them would be selfish but as apple orchard, he can put himself before his family to a certain degree?
The freedom to express his worried and deeper self as opposed to a different persona all together?
