People have been getting mad at him fort every video since fnaf. The problem is that they keep getting mad at him for the wrong reasons. Usually its “oh it’s because he claimed all his theories are Canon” which can’t be farther from the truth since he ends each video with “but hey that’s just a theory”
It was especially prevalent in the sans theory because a much better reason would be “because occams razor dictates its probably something else and also frisk would not recognize him as sans of he had skin”
Here though, people are taking it out of context. He chose that game for a specific reason and was there because he was chosen to represent a culture.
I think people are making this big because of people saying stuff like, "lol its Matpat, the youtuber that makes theories and states that they are true, is a big icon of the YouTube community, and everyone hates him for his success so I hate him as well and whatever big thing he's done is now being mocked by the masses so I'd better get in on that and not check out the actual video to see what he actually said and if I do, I won't be able to rejoin the mass of people that don't check the facts."

Well if you even watched the video, you would see marked acknowledge that the Pope probably won’t play it but it’s a symbolic gesture. I mean, what’s the guy supposed to get him that reflected what he was representing? And you have to remember that this is pope Francis. He loves symbolic gestures. Remember when he got rid of the golden throne and repplaces it with a regular chair?
