Nothing is more hilarious to watch than seeing someone try to convince everyone that their attempts to troll backfiring was part of some master plan in an attempt to keep what dignity they think they have.
Each of the journals have a different feel, a different emotional theme, as they took place at different points of Ford’s research and emotional stability.
The first journal is Ford curious and eager, excited to explore the mysteries all around him. This is him at the purest part of his research in Gravity Falls, full of hope and happiness. This journal goes to Stanley
Its a sad contrast to what the incident made Stanley go through. Imagine him, sad and alone with nothing but his brothers happy written word to keep him company. I can almost imagine him reading it and laughing at parts saying “That is so sixer”. The most it and him share is the feeling of hope.
The second one is the more dangerous. We have seen many times that despite being full of information that is for the most part correct, it’s contents are well, rather scary. Especially the recently revealed possession spell. This is because the knowledge is Bill’s. This is Bill pouring what he wants or is ok with Ford knowing into the journal. Therefore the book has a darker and more sinister undertone then the others. This journal is found by Gideon (whether that was on his own or with help is now coming into question).
This is probably the best matched book. Gideon’s violent, possessive and cruel nature allows him to have no moral objection to a lot of the darker and more evil spells and items detailed in the journal. It also matches him in the desperation for knowledge. And as we all know, knowledge is power.
Book three is Ford at his worst. Paranoid and scared. It has been several years since his mind scaring experience with the portal and the betrayal of Bill. And what makes it worse is Fiddleford’s state as a mentally defective recluse and the creation of the blind eye society. As such, the writing is much more conservative and defensive. Ford doesn’t know who he can trust, and has no one left to turn to. This is found by Dipper.
At first it doesn’t really match him. Yeah Dipper and the book’s writing are both paranoid, but wouldn’t it make more sense if he had the first book? But then the season’s continue. How many times have we seen Dipper beaten down by the world around him, slowly growing more defensive and conservative, to the point were he doesn’t even really trust his sister any more, the one person he stated in the first episode he could always trust. He is so scarred by the stuff that has happened that he almost turns the memory gun on a person he deeply admires. And thats the clincher. Dipper possessing journal three is a huge foreshadowing of his characters development. And I’m afraid if it gets too much worse, he may really do what the book says and trust no one. Maybe not even himself (I mean did u hear his thoughts in the last mabelcorn there is no way Bill wasn’t at least partially involved with that)
