Game Designer A: I have a great idea for the final boss in our game! Game Designer B: Oh, what is it? Game Designer A: I was thinking that our final boss would be immune to kicking, and if you tried to kick him you’d take damage. Game Designer B: That’s a terrible idea! Kicking makes up 50% of our combat mechanic and without it the player will be unable to combo properly! Game Designer C: I think it’s a great idea! It’ll go perfectly with my idea to give the player a finite amount of punches! Game Designer D: And it’ll go perfectly with my idea to give the final boss 1000+ HP, the ability to heal, and the fact that his defense is super high! Game Designer B, C, and D then got promotions.
I scribbled more little AU stuff, because I can’t get out these ideas out of my head. More stuff that doesn’t make sense but for some reason seemed like a nice idea:

Ferrofluid creatures!
Forget goo, the future is now!
If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, ferrofluid is a liquid used in many electronics. It’s made of oil infused with finely shaved iron particles, and is extremely sensitive to magnetic fields. (Go look it up, it’s pretty cool!)
“Okay, that’s neat I guess. But why are you telling me this?”
Ladies and gentlemen, I present: Ferrofluid creatures. Dragons, anthro, ponies, whatever you like.
(Currently I’m working on a dragon-ish one, as shown in the picture.)
Their hearts and/or brains are big chunks of any magnetized metal, which “controls” the flow of the fluid in the structure of the creature, The fields created are often strong enough to retain the fluid’s shape against exterior forces. (Aka, it’s an odd wet, fluid-shifting jello-like mass.) Metal plates, or exoskeleton-like non-fluid areas are also part of their anatomy.
I, for one. Adore this idea. And invite anyone and everyone to give it a go!
